The comediennes will return to hosting duties for at least the next two years.
Television comedy supremoes Tina Fey and Amy Poehler have signed up to host the annual Golden Globe Awards not just next year, but the year after that too, announces The Hollywood Foreign Press Association. The talented duo hosted the 2013 Golden Globe Awards to much acclaim and calls for the SNL alumni to be given another shot at hosting.
Tina & Amy Proved A Popular Choice This Year.
Their popularity at this year's awards is a key factor cited in the ceremony's ratings success with the biggest Golden Globes ratings in six years in both the 18-49 demographic and total viewers, meaning the show was also the second highest-rated Golden Globes in nine years.
"Tina and Amy are two of the most talented comedic writer/performers in our business and they were a major reason the Golden Globes was the most entertaining awards show of last season," said Paul Telegdy, NBC Entertainment's president of alternative and late-night programming, in a statement, via CNN. "We're elated they wanted to host together again and that they committed for the next two years."
The Duo Are Some Of Hollywood's Strongest Comedians.
"We want to assure you that we have no intention of being edgy or offensive tonight," Poehler said during their last hosting stint, adding "...because as Ricky [Gervais] learned the hard way, when you run afoul of the Hollywood Foreign Press, they make you host this show two more times." The pair join a growing muscle of funny women in Hollywood and the exciting news of their hosting residency coincides with the news that talkshow host Ellen Degeneres will host the 2014 Oscars.
As Well As Being Best Friends, The Pair Work Well Together.
Poehler and Fey made themselves known at this year's recent Emmy Awards, heckling host Neil Patrick Harris, eating popcorn, wearing 3D specs and letting a little boob hang out.
"Last year was really fun," Poehler said in an interview with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, via Yahoo!. "We didn't know what to expect. It was exciting to work with Tina, as always, and it was a strange experience. We had a lot of fun so we said maybe we can try it again and like fools we are giving it another shot."
