Tom Cruise Says "You're Not Going To Want To Take Your Eyes Off' 'The Mummy' Re-Make

Tom Cruise

Some of the cast and crew of this summer’s upcoming blockbuster re-make of The Mummy, including its star Tom Cruise, have spoken about their experiences shooting the film.

“I grew up watching these monster movies when I was a little kid, and I remember being utterly terrified,” Cruise said in a new featurette. “What’s interesting about the way these stories are told is that you identify with these classic characters. They terrify us, yet you feel sympathy for them.”

Awards season is nearly upon us, with the film industry gearing up for its annual round of back-slapping and palm-greasing, as well as honouring the most significant works that Hollywood and beyond has had to offer over the past 12 months.

However, there are a number of box office regulars and well-known faces that have never won the most prestigious prize Hollywood awards – the Best Actor or Actress Oscar. Here are half a dozen big stars who have featured in many hit movies who have, surprisingly, never collected a gong.

Is The Tom Cruise Scream From 'The Mummy' The New Wilhelm Scream?

Tom Cruise

Say what you like about Tom Cruise, he doesn't do anything by halves. Thus, when he's expected to scream while falling from a plane, he really goes for it. Of course, the scream wasn't particularly effective in the recently released trailer for 'The Mummy'... until now.

Tom CruiseTom Cruise's scream in 'The Mummy' is epic

This week, IMAX set out to share a new trailer for the upcoming re-boot of 'The Mummy', but what followed instead was an upload of the original trailer with some key parts of the audio missing. Virtually all of the soundtrack couldn't be heard, pretty much just leaving behind all of the actors vocals and their weird noises. You might remember it's a pretty full-on clip, and Tom Cruise screaming without the help of a score is just hilarious.

Tom Cruise Comes Back From The Dead In 'The Mummy'

Tom Cruise

If you're bored with zombies and vampires by now but still need a classic monster fix, 'The Mummy' is making a comeback in a new movie starring Tom Cruise. It's a fresh new story about another wronged Ancient Egyptian figure, but with loads of explosions and cinematic craziness to go with it.

Tom CruiseTom Cruise stars in 'The Mummy'

All we have so far is a trailer and already it looks like it's going to be one hell of a ride. It sees Tom Cruise and Annabelle Wallis as military operative Nick Morton and archaeologist Jenny Halsey in a plane incident when an army craft carrying an ancient Egyptian sarcophagus is attacked by a flock of crow-like creatures. As the burning plane hurtles towards the ground, Nick releases Jenny's parachute and braces himself for impact. The next thing he knows, he has woken up in a body bag in a morgue. Strangely unscathed.

The Mummy Trailer

The tombs and burial chambers in Egypt have long provided fascinated discoveries and lead the world to understand incredibly important facts about ancient times. Down the generations, it's been said that the ancient Egyptian gods, deities and earthly pharaohs had powers beyond those of a normal human.

Thousands of years after the gods walked the earth, we're still as interested in the secrets the ancients held.

There are few details available about the precise plot of the new movie but here's what we do know. When a new tomb is found, work begins to excavate the structure and catalogue its contents. When a mummy's tomb is uncovered, the archaeologists can't believe their luck, wishing to protect and preserve the tomb, the army are called in and asked to transport the structure to London but whilst the freighter is in the air, the team on board find themselves - and the plane - being attacked by a vast swathe of flying creatures.

Tom Cruise's Love For Jack Reacher

Tom Cruise Cobie Smulders

After weathering the furore over his casting as Lee Child's 6-foot-5 blond muscle man in the 2012 film Jack Reacher, Tom Cruise set out to make the character his own in the sequel, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back. "I love this character," Cruise says with a smile. "I love the iconic nature of this character. I like the physicality of the character. It's fun creating the kinds of stories that he has as he goes to different places."

Cruise also liked the way the novels keep the action grounded in reality. "When you read the books you just find yourself thinking that they're really satisfying," he says. "It's like the movies I watched in the '70s, and some from the '60s, the movies that you kind of look back on. Jack is the cool loner - it's very Western, very American. And I love the fact that today, especially in this digital age, he's someone who doesn't have a phone, he's off-grid. He walks into a place and he's enormously capable but just very human."

Following her explosive interview last week about the Church of Scientology, Leah Remini has revealed that Katie Holmes’ apology for causing her any distress in the past “almost makes me want to cry” in a new TV appearance.

Remini’s sensational appearance on ‘20/20’ on Friday was one of the biggest news items of the week, and it prompted an on-air statement of regret from Holmes – which came via a written note and not from a face-to-face interview with Holmes herself – that read: “I regret having upset Leah in the past, and wish her only the best in the future.”

Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation - Spin Cycle Featurette

If you read our story on Tom Cruise working with Simon Pegg on 'Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation', you'll know that the Hollywood star did his own stunts for the film including the seriously dangerous driving - and he was shocked at how much Pegg trusted him.

Looking at this clip - featuring the duo in said car chase - Pegg's acting talent is incredible; either that or he didn't quite trust his co-star as much as Cruise thought and was genuinely scared the whole time. We sure would be.

The latest instalment of the spy franchise, directed by Christopher McQuarrie, is out in theatres now.

The Avengers and Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr. has topped Forbes list of the world's highest paid actors for the third year in a row, taking home a massive $80million last year. The star’s ranking was said to have be greatly helped by the Chinese box office, where Downey’s latest offering The Avengers: Age of Ultron grossed $240 million.

Robert Downey JrRobert Downey Jr has been named the world’s highest paid actor by Forbes magazine.

In the number two spot was Hong Kong born action star Jackie Chan, who raked in an impressive $50 million thanks to the release of Dragon Blade. Following Chan at number three was another somewhat surprising entrant, Vin Diesel, whose role in mega-hit Furious 7 saw him take home $47 million.

It looks as though Tom Cruise’s latest action rampage Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation is going to exceed the very good commercial performance expected of it this weekend, with the news that the thriller has made a near-record $20.3 million on its opening Friday (July 31st).

Industry insiders who have been able to access pre-release audience surveys predicted that the latest MI instalment would make approximately $40 million over its opening weekend. However, the Friday figure from nearly 4,000 theaters – doubly impressive for one that didn’t debut on a Wednesday, according to Forbes – has revised studio expectations upwards to as high as $52 million.

Mission: Impossible 5 Pushes Tom Cruise To New Heights

Tom Cruise Christopher McQuarrie

At age 53, Tom Cruise shows no signs of slowing down, still doing his own stunts in the latest instalment of the Mission: Impossible franchise, which he has also been producing since the first film in 1996.

This summer's Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation is written and directed by Oscar-winner Christopher McQuarrie, who also worked with Cruise on Valkyrie, Jack Reacher and Edge of Tomorrow. He brings a more grounded touch to the series, including stunts that feel almost frighteningly realistic.

Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation Review

Very Good

Writer-director Christopher McQuarrie brings a dark and gritty tone to this larger-than-life franchise. Along with a constant stream of barbed humour, the film has an enjoyably knotted mystery plot and action set-pieces that feel like they're grounded in the real world. It's a terrific shift into earthy believability for a series of movies that has previously indulged in gleefully incoherent narratives and exaggerated explosive chaos.

Right from the start, our hero Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) is an outsider. As he searches for a shady assassin (Sean Harris) and his mythical organisation The Syndicate, Ethan's Impossible Mission Force is being dissolved by the US government. CIA Director Hunley (Alec Baldwin) absorbs the IMF team, but tech genius Benji (Simon Pegg) secretly helps Ethan, enlisting Luther (Ving Rhames) and William (Jeremy Renner) as well. Soon, all three are gallivanting from Vienna to Morocco and back to London, as Ethan works with double or perhaps triple agent Ilsa (Rebecca Ferguson) to prove that The Syndicate exists and stop its nefarious plan.

The film plays out like an edgy James Bond adventure, as Ethan works with a possibly dangerous woman in exotic locations in pursuit of some very shadowy baddies. McQuarrie's script is unusually lucid for this genre, piecing together the various elements expertly, building a genuine sense of tension without ever letting things tip over into overblown silliness. The chase sequences are remarkably rough and unpredictable, avoiding digital trickery to create moments that are jaw-droppingly authentic. As usual, we can tell that Cruise does his own stunts; the opening hanging-from-an-airplane scene is awesome, and a helmet-free motorbike chase looks even more perilous. With the IMF disbanded, it's never quite clear how Ethan funds his one-man operation, but he has a terrific supply of cool gadgets stashed all over Europe.
