So, scientology. Let's talk about that.
Scientology has remained on the cooky fringes of pop culture for the better part of the last decade, but no more! HBO has apparently taken on the task of unpacking and examining up close this most Los Angeles of religious practices in a new documentary, premiering this Sunday. Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief apparently aims to uncover the roots and development of the Church of Scientology – and its decline, according to some.
Apparently it's more than just that strange thing Tom Cruise was into a while back.
Directed by Alex Gibney, the documentary does not reveal too much beyond what’s already been published in Lawrence Wright’s eponymous book, the LA Times’ review states. Meanwhile, the Church of Scientology is none too excited about the flick’s premiere. In fact, they seem to be doing everything in their power to discredit the project.

This franchise was never kind to viewers with a fear of heights.

The title was also a point of contention around Hollywood. You'll notice a certain similarity between this one and the title of the upcoming Star Wars spinoff, Rogue One. According to Variety, however, Paramount got there first. Apparently, Disney didn't announce the name until March 12, two months after Paramount registered Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation.
The pair were reported to have been secretly dating for close to two years.
Jamie Foxx has attempted to quash rumours that he’s enjoying a secret romance with actress Katie Holmes, by telling paparazzi the pair are “just friends”. Foxx's comments come days after it was claimed the pair may have been keeping a romance under wraps for nearly two years after hitting it off in summer 2013.

The ex-wife of Tom Cruise and his 'Collateral' co-star are said to have been more than just friends for a while now.
It’s been nearly three years since Katie Holmes’ marriage to Tom Cruise ended and following her high profile divorce the former ‘Dawson’s Creek’ star has kept understandably quiet about her love life. But according to a story in this week’s US Weekly, things have been anything but quiet for Holmes on the romance front, as she’s reportedly been seeing actor Jamie Foxx for nearly two years.
Katie Holmes is said to be enjoying spending time with Jamie Foxx
Inside the magazine a picture taken of the pair together back in February shows the undercover couple looking cosy as they hold hands and maybe even indulge in a little game of footsie. The movie star, currently in box office topper 'Focus', has been linked to Scientology in the past, but a former senior executive for the religion denies that he is a member.
Contrary to popular belief, Will Smith is not a Scientologist. That’s according to a former Scientology senior executive in a new interview ahead of the anticipated documentary movie about the controversial religion.
In a conversation with The Daily Beast, former executive director of Scientology’s Office of Special Affairs Mike Rinder and journalist Tony Ortega, who has reported on the religion for almost twenty years, both flatly denied that the blockbuster star was a card-carrying member of the church. “Will Smith is not a Scientologist,” they both plainly stated.

Tom Cruise was seen filming a scene from the upcoming fifth instalment of the 'Mission Impossible' franchise near the Tower of London. The film was set to open theatrically on 25th December 2015, however the release date was pushed back to 2016 so as not to compete at the box-office with 'Spectre' and 'The Force Awakens'.
David Oyelowo speaks up at the Selma premiere, while Tom Cruise is spotted filming for M:I 5. There are new glimpses of Z for Zachariah, James Franco's True Story, Tom Hardy's Child 44, the Fantastic Four reboot and Mark Wahlberg's Ted 2...

Tom Cruise should continue his stunning run at the box-office with 'Mission Impossible 5'.
Paramount has moved the release date of what is likely to be its biggest grossing movie of the year - Mission Impossible 5 - from Christmas Day to the July 31. At the same time, the studio moved its animated film Monster Trucks to the now vacant festive date.
Tom Cruise is on a box-office role at the moment, and Mission Impossible 5 should continue the run
In its new slot, Mission Impossible 5 will open against the Point Break remake with Luke Bracey and Edgar Ramirez and Antoine Fuqua's boxing movie Southpaw, with Jake Gyllenhaal. However, Mission Impossible's biggest threat could be a release that arrives the following week - Terminator Genisys. Paramount executives wouldn't be enthralled with the idea of surrendering the inevitable box-office top spot after just one week, though it would be devastating for Warner Bros if its action movie is unable to unseat a movie in its second week.

The actor is known for doing his own stunts on film, but may need a little help in real life.
He may be an action hero on the big screen but Tom Cruise narrowly avoided disaster earlier this week when he was nearly hit by a double decker bus on the streets of London. In a video, obtained by the Today Show, the 53 year old is seen having a close call while attempting to cross the busy capital road.
Tom was not wearing the glasses or headphones when he walked out in front of the bus
In the video Cruise steps out onto the road, right in front of the oncoming double decker, the driver of which fortunately honks his horn loudly to alert the actor. Cruise then quickly retreats as a fellow pedestrian appears to comment on his close call.
Tom Cruise has been performing even more ridiculous stunts for the 'Mission: Impossible 5' movies.
Tom Cruise didn't exactly have a regular Sunday. The actor was suspended from an Airbus A400M at 5,000ft, filming scenes for his new movie Mission Impossible 5. Just 24 hours later, Cruise was filming another action scene atop a four-engine military aircraft at RAF Wittering, Cambridgeshire.

Will a title change result in a better DVD release than the film's box?
Edge of Tomorrow may just have been the unexpected hit of the summer, but Warner Bros. aren't done with the surprises yet - they seem to have the film's name to its more catchy tagline Live Die Repeat for the DVD/Blu-Ray release.
Take a look at the box art, and you'll see those words emblazoned, capitalized in yellow. They take precedence on the cover, rather than the film's actual title, which is actually pretty bland and uninspiring compared to the film itself, which scored big the critics.

Which films were on the brink of a completely different lead star?
With Robert Downey Jr fitting so perfectly as likeable irritant Tony Stark, Christian Bale slipping so easily into the tortured billionaire psyche of Bruce Wayne and Daniel Day-Lewis transforming himself into the epitome of Abraham Lincoln, it's hard to believe that for all of the above roles, there were some serious previous contenders. But contenders there were and some of the not entirely savoury.
Tom Cruise as Iron Man
The pint-sized action hero made it his mission impossible to kick ass as IMF agent, Ethan Hunt, but could he have romanced Pepper Potts in quite the same way as Robert Downey Jr's Iron Man? It seems like we very nearly found out with Cruise at one point in serious contention to play the arrogant but entertaining genius.

The Tom Cruise vehicle received the highest number of complaints to the British Board of Film Classification, but what were the reasons for this?
According to figures released by the British Board Of Film Classification (BBFC), the Tom Cruise action thriller Jack Reacher was 2013’s most complained about film. Based on a series of novels by British author Jim Grant, the film follows the actions of the protagonist who gives the film its namesake in a quest to solve a series of violent and murky crimes using methods that themselves often delve into law-breaking. Naturally in a contemporary Hollywood action thriller you would expect a continuous torrent of violence, explosions and careless destruction but it seems that a rare example of leniency by a traditionally conservative and uptight BBFC has led to a number of complaints by cinemagoers.
Violence meted out by the film's protagonist, played by Cruise, has drawn criticism from filmgoers.
A total of 26 complaints were received by the classification board which decried the 12A film certificate- meaning children under 12 be accompanied by an adult, as misjudged. The complaints remain, despite the fact that the BBFC revealed it demanded two cuts within the film to achieve the 12A rating. The board’s own website describes these cuts as “a woman being suffocated by a man and a man being hit over the head with a rock.” Yet filmgoers still felt unsettled enough by the remaining violent scenes to lodge 26 formal complaints.

Tom Cruise movies sure has raked in the cash at the box office over the years.
Say what you want about Tom Cruise movies, but the actor seemingly holds a box office record which eclipses most other stars in Hollywood. Since the mid 80s his movies - increasingly action-thrillers - have broken records, taking staggering amounts worldwide and making him one of the most bankable stars of the last 30 years. Tom Cruise's latest movie, Edge of Tomorrow, has so far grossed over $239 million worldwide, which is an impressive amount, but it’s nothing to write home about for the 51-year-old. Will Katie Holmes be able to distance herself from her Dawson's Creek role in a slew of upcoming films?
As the former wife of one of Hollywood’s most prolific and instantly recognisable screen icons, it is to be expected that Katie Holmes marriage to Tom Cruise will define much of her career for many years to come. What’s more, despite starring in such well-known and successful films as Batman Begins, Go and Phone Booth, she remains most well-known for her role as Joey Potter in the long-running series Dawson’s Creek.
Katie Holmes is attempting to re-establish herself as an actress.
The series, which details the lives of four teenagers through their growing pangs and adolescent tribulations ran for six seasons and 128 episodes, leaving Katie’s turn as the character Joey Potter left burned onto the minds of much of the American public. So far, efforts to distance herself from the role have been largely unsuccessful but an upcoming slew of films sees Katie making her most concerted effort to redefine herself as a talented and versatile actress.

'The Fault in Our Stars' reigned supreme at the U.S box office - beating both 'Edge of Tomorrow' and 'Maleficent'
The slow-burning publicity campaign for Fault in Our Stars worked perfectly. The teen-romance had started pulling in reviews about a year ago, but it finally got its full U.S release on Friday (June 6, 2014) and pulled in $48 million. Tom Cruise's well-received blockbuster Edge of Tomorrow could only manage $29.1 million.
'The Fault in Our Stars' Dominated the Box-Office
The Shailene Woodley starring movie is based on John Green's novel of the same name, which has to date sold over 10 million copies. It tells the story of two cancer-stricken teens falling in love. 20th Century Fox pulled off a perfect marketing strategy that focused heavily on social media outreach.

Is TFIOS worth the hype? In a word, yes.
The Fault In Our Stars seems to be emerging as the winner of this weekend’s box office race, after it made teens across the US (and the world) bawl their eyes out for three solid days. That’s what the tweets say, anyway. The film tells the story of a pair of teens living with cancer – the clever and self-deprecating Hazel Grace Lancaster (Shailene Woodley) and the disarmingly lovable Augustus Waters (Ansel Elgort). As the two meet, fall in love and go on a life-changing trip together, they discover some truths about life, love and the meaning of it all.. As for the box office stats, well, those are nothing to cry about.
The cast of TFIOS at the film's New York premiere.
TFIOS, adapted from John Green’s bestselling novel (read all his books, if you haven’t already, seriously) is doing amazingly well not just in the US, but also in international markets. The film, which reportedly cost just $17 million to make, checked in at $26.1 million in domestic profits on Friday, and is projected to pass the $50 million mark by the end of Sunday, per Box Office Mojo. In international markets, TFIOS is expected to do even better, although the data is still unavailable at this time.
Jimmy Fallon challenged Tom Cruise to an unusual game, one which no one has ever seen before, entitled 'Face-Breakers' whilst the actor was appearing on the Tonight Show on Thursday (5th June).
"So we'll be throwing footballs at that wall of glass with our faces on it," are words any average person would never think they would say. But not if you're Jimmy Fallon who challenged Tom Cruise, during his Thursday (5th June) night show, to a game of "Face-Breakers".
Tom Cruise played 'Face-Breakers' with Jimmy Fallon on the Tonight Show.
A large glass panel was erected in Fallon's Tonight Show studio with separate panels designated for either Cruise or Fallon. The aim of the game was to take turns throwing an American football at the opposing player's face. However, if the air horn sounded it signified a speed round and it was considered, for the duration, a free-for-all. The first person to smash all the glass pieces with his opponent's face on them would be considered the winner.
The critics are loving "Edge of Tomorrow", but it still might fall behind "Our Stars"
Tom Cruise is forced to live out the same day on loop in the Edge of Tomorrow – a concept that would have been as unimaginative as the name, if it wasn’t for the sci-fi twist the movie offers. Cruise and Emily Blunt team up in a film that is so far getting high marks from the critics and is about to go into its debut weekend with a predicted $28 million debut (according to boxoffice.com). The analysts place it lower in the chart predictions than the other debut this weekend – the highly anticipated screen adaptation of John Green’s The Fault In Our Stars, which is on track for a $36 million weekend. Still, Edge of Tomorrow is definitely on the radar, with some strong reviews.
Emily Blunt and Tom Cruise sell the premise for all it's worth.
“It's not the most original setup, to be sure, but what makes this particular celluloid Möbius strip bend in on itself with such seamlessness is the cheeky airtight logic of Christopher McQuarrie, Jez Butterworth, and John-Henry Butterworth's script — and the stars,” writes Chris Nashawaty of Entertainment Weekly. “While Cruise sells the déjà vu contraption with his usual single-minded determination, it's Blunt who emerges as the who-knew wild card.”
Who's carrying whose spear now?
Emily Blunt stars alongside Tom Cruise in ‘Edge of Tomorrow’, which has been the surprise critical hit of the year so far. But there was a time when Blunt wasn’t exactly itching to work with her co-star, as a helpful journalist decided to remind her in the middle of an interview.
Emily Blunt and Tom Cruise star in 'Edge of Tomorrow'
“A few years ago Emily Blunt said that she would rather do badly paid theatre for the rest of her life than ever accept a role ‘as a spear carrier in a Tom Cruise movie,’” Helena de Bertodano wrote, kicking off her interview piece with Blunt in The Telegraph.
Tom Cruise flashed the paparazzi a broad grin as he posed for photos at the New York premiere of his sci-fi flick 'Edge Of Tomorrow'.
'Maleficent' dominated the box-office this weekend among weak opposition.
Angelina Jolie’s Disney blockbuster ‘Maleficent’ has taken $69.4 million at the final U.S box office count for the weekend. That means it’s now pretty much recouped its $180 million budget in worldwide takings and is well on its way to making a bucket load of cash. The competition turned out to be weak, with Seth MacFarlane’s ‘A Million Ways to Die in the West’ flat lining with $17 million.
Angelina Jolie in Disney's 'Maleficent'
The comedy was almost beaten by Fox’s X:Men: Days of Future Past, which itself dropped 64% in its second week. Elsewhere, the critically derided Blended and Neighbors (now in its fourth week) were neck and neck for the fifth spot with Seth Rogen’s comedy losing out.
A smarter-than-expected script turns this noisy sci-fi action movie into something remarkably entertaining. A-list stars, solid actors and whizzy effects aside, the dialogue is packed with clever observations that are both mind-bending and unexpectedly hilarious. And director Doug Liman (Mr. & Mrs. Smith) lets his cast have a lot of fun with it.
In the near future when aliens called Mimics have rampaged across Europe, Cage (Tom Cruise) is a military media spokesman suddenly sent into the front-lines from London, battling the fearsome creatures on the beaches of Normandy. He's killed fairly quickly, but wakes up that same morning and is again sent through battlefield prep with harsh Sgt Farell (Bill Paxton) and a rag-tag team. Again and again. Eventually he breaks out of the pattern and discovers another soldier, Rita (Emily Blunt), who seems to understand why he is living this day over and over only to die each time. So he uses the repetition to figure out what's really going on, and he and Rita plot a way to stop the aliens for good.
Yes, the premise is a direct riff on Groundhog Day, as Cage makes the most of each day, learning something new that will get him further the next. And the film's script knowingly plays with the set-up, offering witty comments and some genuinely suspenseful set-pieces along the way, all sharply edited into a relatively coherent narrative, although the ending will generate a lot of post-screening debate. Liman packs the film with kinetic, intense action sequences that are rendered with strikingly realistic effects that occasionally have some extra fun with the 3D.

'Edge of Tomorrow' is one of the best reviewed movies of Tom Cruise's career - so is he at the top of his game again?
There was a five year period in the early 2000's when Tom Cruise could do no wrong and was undoubtedly the world's biggest movie star. He put together a fine run of quality movies, including Minority Report, Space Station, The Last Samurai, Collateral, War of the Worlds and Mission: Impossible III.
Tom Cruise in 'Edge of Tomorrow'
After that, things started to go a little...wrong. The disastrous Lions for Lambs was arguably the worst movie of Cruise's career and despite a funny comedy part in Tropic Thunder, he went on to make Valkyrie and Knight & Day as well as producing The Eye and Death Race. Ouch.
Tom Cruise's 'Edge of Tomorrow' is a brilliant, brilliant movie. Really.
It was bound to be a flop. It had to be a flop. But Tom Cruise's Edge of Tomorrow is emerging as one of the best movies of 2014 and has put a small group of smarmy movie writers like myself, - who lumped it in with Oblivion when we should have been thinking District 9 - firmly in our place.

Doug Liman, whose last movie was the critically derided Jumper, was given the job of helming EOT and appears to have done a fine, fine job with a quality cast that includes Cruise, Emily Blunt and Bill Paxton.

Blunt details how acting saw her overcome a stutter
Emily Blunt, the star of the upcoming sci-fi epic, Edge of Tomorrow starring Tom Cruise, has detailed how acting – being ‘someone else’ helped her overcome her stutter. It was a teacher who suggested it, and the British actress has never looked back since.
Emily Blunt says being someone else helped her overcome her stutter
"It was the most intuitive thing, and he was right: the only way I could speak fluently was to be someone else,” she explained to The Sunday Telegraph's Stella magazine. "It alienates you in some ways if you have trouble communicating. It wasn't that I got bullied horribly about it, although kids definitely had a go sometimes.” But that’s not to say she’s 100% cured; "It comes back if I'm tired or stressed," she explained.
In a new interview, the actress addressed those swirling Tom Cruise rumours.
Laura Prepon has moved to dismiss the rumors that she is dating fellow actor Tom Cruise after speculation began circulating earlier this month. The Orange Is The New Black star had been linked to Cruise largely because the two share their Scientologist faith and it had been reported that they've been dating since last year.
Laura Prepon Has Laughed Off Rumours That She Is Dating Tom Cruise.
"It's just so funny that, when people don't know, they just make stuff up, [like] apparently I'm dating Tom Cruise right now," the 34 year-old star told SheKnows, adding "And apparently he doesn't want me doing the show because I portray a lesbian and I'm a Scientologist. This is false; where are they even getting this stuff? It's unbelievable to me."

Tom Cruise meets his end more that once as we prepare for 'Edge of Tomorrow'
Tom Cruise is back in sci-fi action epic ‘Edge of Tomorrow’, where he’s doomed to die, die and die again, as a solider who gets caught in a time loop fighting an alien race. The battle commences in June but the latest trailer has just been released, so are you ready for what some are calling ‘Starship Troopers’ meets ‘Groundhog Day’?
Tom Cruise in 'Edge of Tomorrow'
Far from being a Hollywood invention, ’Edge of Tomorrow’ is actually adapted from the Japanese light novel ‘All You Need Is Kill ‘ by Hiroshi Sakurazaka. ‘Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters’ writer Dante W. Harper first adapted it into a script in 2010 and the rights to it were quickly bought up by Warner Bros for the handsome sum of $3 million. From its very early days Doug Liman, the man behind the camera for the ‘Bourne Identity’ and ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith’ was on board to direct and the first lead actor being looked at was Brad Pitt. Originally it still had the ‘All You Need Is Kill’ title from the original novel, but another name, ‘We Are Mortals’ was being talked about before ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ was settled on.

The singer revealed her belief in extraterrestrial beings in an interview for GQ, but she is not alone in thinking that we are not alone
Katy Perry appeared as the cover girl for the February issue of GQ magazine, where amongst other things, she revealed that she genuinely believes in extraterrestrial beings and that we are not alone. She also spoke about praying for large breasts, regretting that prayer in later life, her dislike of cannabis, losing her virginity, the beginnings of her career and much more, but it was her other worldly beliefs that has caught on.
Katy believes that we are not alone
"I believe in a lot of astrology. I believe in aliens. I look up into the stars and I imagine: How self-important are we to think that we are the only life-form?" she questioned. "I mean, if my relationship with Obama gets any better, I'm going to ask him that question. It just hasn't been appropriate yet."

The settlement included a carefully worded apology by the defendants. In it, they claim: “Bauer Publishing, 'In Touch' and 'Life and Style' never intended to communicate that Tom Cruise had cut off all ties and abandoned his daughter Suri and regret if anyone drew that inference from anything they published.”
Cruise only settled on the condition that the tabloids in question apologise for their statements.
The settlement also states that each side is to pay its own legal fees, according to TMZ. The settlement was originally started by Cruise over accusations that he’d “abandoned” his then six-year-old daughter, following his public divorce from Katie Holmes.

Tom Cruise’s later years seem to be lending themselves more and more to science fiction, with the springtime film Oblivion and now Edge of Tomorrow – an epic mech journey laced with rebirth and uber-modern technology.
Tom Cruise is a startled soldier in Edge of Tomorrow
The film follows rookie fighter William Cage (Cruise) who is launched into a monumental alien assault. The weakness of his allies is soon realised as his squad is almost immediately wiped out, but before long, he finds himself in a time loop that forces him to relive the painstakingly brutal combat and inevitable death over and over again.
Major William Cage is a soldier who is thrust into an impossible battle when the world is taking over by an advanced and brutal army of aliens called Mimics. He teams up with feisty Special Forces soldier Rita Vrataski but, unsurprisingly, they and the rest of the military force attacking the intergalactic threat are almost immediately wiped out. However, Cage wakes up and finds himself back to where he started having just been recruited, with the deadly battle still ahead of them. When he later dies again in a different way and subsequently re-awakens, he realises that this day will be on a loop presenting him with a unique opportunity to grow stronger and more able to defeat the global enemy with the help of Vrataski as each day passes by.

The sequel will see Reacher escape his one-time employees as he is charged with homicide.
Jack Reacher may not have been a huge hit with the critics, accumulating an aggregate score of 61%, and it didn’t even look as though it would rake in the box office return to satisfy its studio, achieving a below average $80m from its domestic take. But the global performance flourished, and with a total of $218m internationally, Jack Reacher 2 was inevitable.
Recently it was announced that Tom Cruise would be back for Reacher 2 –a franchise based on the novels of Lee Child. And today is has been revealed that the sequel will be based on the bestselling novel, Never Go Back, which has an intriguing - if not strange – plot (Deadline). It sees Reacher travel back to his old military base in Virginia to take the new commanding officer out to dinner. But by the time he gets there, she’s been arrested. Reacher is then charged with homicide.
Here’s the official synopsis of the book from Amazon:“After an epic and interrupted journey all the way from the snows of South Dakota, Jack Reacher has finally made it to Virginia. His destination: a sturdy stone building a short bus ride from Washington D.C., the headquarters of his old unit, the 110th MP. It was the closest thing to a home he ever had. Why? He wants to meet the new commanding officer, Major Susan Turner. He liked her voice on the phone. But the officer sitting behind Reacher's old desk isn't a woman. Why is Susan Turner not there?”
Tom Cruise is set to reprise the role of ex military police officer 'Jack Reacher' as Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions teaming up once again to create a sequel.
Tom Cruise starred as 'Jack Reacher' in the action thriller film of the same name last year in 2012.
The movie was based on the novel 'One Shot' (2005) by British author Lee Child, who has used the title character in a series of books.
It looks like another one of Mr Child's novels is going to hit the big screen as Paramount and Skydance Productions are reteaming for a sequel, according to Deadline.
The new building will be used so Scientology members can learn their superpowers. That's normal, so shut up.
Tom Cruise, John Travolta and Kelly Preston were three of around 6000 people in attendance to usher in a new era for Scientology, represented by the religion’s new ‘Flag Building’ in Clearwater, Florida. As the tallest building in the region, it will home to the new ‘Super Power’ program.
Perhaps the three most famous members of the cult religion watched as David Miscavige gave a speech, introducing the terrifying, 377,000-square-foot Flag Building to his dedicated followers. This is the first time members have a place to practice the 'Super Power' program, which was developed by founder L Ron Hubbard in the 1970s.
This wasn’t just a walk-in-affair; the scientologists knew that if it were a free-for-all, people would just stroll up, make fun of them and probably throw things, so security was tight. But instead of the 10,000 people predicted, around 6000 people turned up. Despite this, dedicated followers still weren’t allowed in.
