As we move properly into awards season, films are jostling to be the frontrunner. This week saw nominations announced by the Golden Globes and the Screen Actors Guild, two key awards in the run-up to Oscar night. At the moment, the leading contenders are David O Russell's Abscam comedy-drama American Hustle and Steve McQueen's 12 Years a Slave. But anything can happen, see the other contenders here.

The dark horse in the awards race is The Wolf of Wall Street, a late entry into contention. The film held its European premiere in Paris on Monday, attended by Leonardo Dicaprio, director Martin Scorsese and costar Jean Dujardin. Buzz is growing quickly for the film, which opens in most cinemas in January. Watch the latest trailer for Wolf Of Wall Street here!

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

Tuesday night saw the European premiere of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug in Berlin, attended by stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman, Orlando Bloom, Evangeline Lilly, Luke Evans, director Peter Jackson and Ed Sheeran, who composed and sings the theme song. The sequel hits cinemas this weekend and is likely to pick up plenty of technical awards attention. Read our review for The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug here.

As for new trailers, the biggest was for next summer's Tom Cruise sci-fi action epic Edge of Tomorrow, in which a soldier continually relives his death in a battle against an alien force, each time learning something new. It looks pretty impressive. Costars include Emily Blunt, Jeremy Piven and Bill Paxton. Watch the trailer for Edge of Tomorrow here

Jupiter Ascending

We also got our first glimpse of the Wachowskis' Jupiter Ascending, a stylish sci-fi action movie starring Channing Tatum, Mila Kunis, Eddie Redmayne and Sean Bean. It also looks spectacular, but we'll have to wait until next summer to see it. Watch the teaser trailer for Jupiter Ascending here.

The trailer for Calvary promises another striking Irish comedy-thriller from actor Brendan Gleeson and writer-director John Michael McDonagh, who last worked together on The Guard. It's about a priest who learns that there's a hitman after him. Costars include Chris O'Dowd, Kelly Reilly and Domhnall Gleeson. The film opens in April. Watch the trailer for Calvary here.

And finally, we had our first glimpse of Jason Bateman's rude comedy Bad Words, about a 40-year-old man who enters a pre-teen spelling bee and promptly starts corrupting the kids. Kathryn Hahn and Allison Janney costar in the film, which was also directed by Bateman. It opens in March. Watch the red band trailer for Bad Words here.
