The first trailer for Tom Cruise 's new movie 'Jack Reacher' hit the web this week, gloriously timed to fit with his impending divorce from Katie Holmes. It's been a rough couple of days for the Hollywood A-lister - apparently being 'blindsided' by his wife leaving - though the new trailer suggests the actor is far from done in the movie business.
The divorce has brought fresh scrutiny over Cruise's ties with Scientology, and News Corp boss Rubert Murdoch has publically claimed the actor could be second in the overall hierarchy of the religion. According to Fox News, his beliefs played a major role in Paramount's decision to split with the actor in 2006, though they have since made up, and Cruise made the studio a cool $690 million with 'Mission: Impossible: Ghost Protocol'. Unveiling the 'Jack Reacher' trailer, Paramount said in a statement, "Tom is a huge movie star for the right reason. He's a very talented actor whose movies have entertained millions of fans. His ability to make a great movie, as we saw with the most recent installment in the `Mission: Impossible' franchise - the most successful of the series to date -- is the thing that moviegoers remember above all else". Adapted from a novel by Lee Child, the new crime-drama sees Cruise star as an ex-military investigator caught up in the cause of a sniper accused of killing five people.
The slick trailer mainly sees Cruise chasing criminals, shooting guns and driving fast cars, though it will likely delight fans of the action genre upon its release in September 2012.
