We’ve been privy to some pretty outlandish rumours surrounding the upcoming sci-fi reboot, but Tom Cruise for Star Wars Episode VII is the best one yet.

Star Wars

The Mission Impossible actor has reportedly spoken to director J.J. Abrams to discuss his involvement in the project. This after a high profile recruitment campaign saw some old stars return and some exciting new faces join the franchise.

This could just be another ridiculous rumour, or Abrams could be looking to bolster his box office chances by recruiting a big name. Lest we forget, he worked on Mission Impossible 5, and Cruise himself has recently enjoyed critical acclaim in a sci-fi role.

"Tom has been in London for over a week and met up with J.J. and some other people from Star Wars at the weekend," an insider revealed to British newspaper The Sun. “On Saturday evening five of them met up for dinner and drinks at the Belgravia Hotel. J.J. produced Mission: Impossible 5 and loves working with Tom whenever he gets the chance."

Filming for Episode VII is currently underway at Pinewood Studios, London. But things hit a snag when Harrison Ford was badly injured after a contretemps with a garage door, which was intitially thought to be a moving part of Han Solo’s own ship, the Millennium Falcon.

Ford suffered a broken leg and is facing at least two months of recovery time before he can start filming again. And even then, producers are considering the logistics of filming him from the waist up to compensate for his injury. “Losing Harrison is going to set things back a little scheduling wise and there’s some time to play around with," said an insider.
