Tom Cruise left onlookers in south-west London stunned and amazed as he landed a helicopter in a local playing field on Thursday (June 30th).

Social media caught fire yesterday morning as the Hollywood A-lister touched down on Old Rutlishian Sports Ground in Morden, as he arrived in order to shoot scenes from his upcoming Jack Reacher sequel in nearby Wimbledon Studios.

The club’s official Twitter account posted a picture of Cruise shortly after he landed on their field, writing: “Let’s hope this coming season isn't a mission impossible. Mr Top Gun himself dropped by poplar road. @TomCruise.”

The Wimbledon Guardian, the local newspaper, later reported that Cruise jumped into a waiting BMW at around 10am and was driven to the studio, where he’s currently filming the nearly-finished action sequel Jack Reacher: Never Go Back alongside co-stars Cobie Smulders, Danika Yarosh and Aldis Hodge.

Other people in the area saw Cruise impressively landing the helicopter, and took to social media to document it. “Tom Cruise currently in South Wimbledon filming the new Jack Reacher movie. Landed by helicopter behind my office in Morden #Legend,” one wrote.

Another posted: “You may have wondered who just arrived in Morden. Yep- @TomCruise has popped in for a pint!”

Merton Council even reported it, writing: “We had a bird's eye view of @TomCruise arriving in Merton Park to film the new @JackReacher today.”

Cruise, 53, was also recently spotted in Oxford and Surrey filming his new action movie The Mummy, due for release in 2017. The public is due to see the Jack Reacher sequel rather earlier than that, with its release date scheduled for October 21st this year.
