Two people have died in a plane crash on the location of a new Tom Cruise movie.

The small aircraft crashed in the Colombian Andes on Friday (11.09.15), leading to the deaths of two people, including a Los Angeles-based film pilot, and injuring another person, according to Colombia's civilian aviation authority.

A spokesperson for Universal said: ''An aircraft carrying crew members crashed while returning to Enrique Olaya Herrera Airport in Medellin following production wrap on the film 'Mena' resulting in two fatalities.

''Further details are not available at this time. On behalf of the production, our hearts and prayers go out to the crew members and their families at this difficult time.''

Tom was not on the aircraft at the time of the crash.

American Alan Purwin and Colombian Carlos Berl have been named as the deceased while American Jimmy Lee Garland is currently in intensive care.

Tom has been filming the movie 'Mena', about a drug runner acting as an informant for the CIA, in Medellin, Colombia's second largest city.

According to the aviation official, the twin-engine Aerostar hit bad weather soon after taking off.
