"A special film. It's bombastically entertaining and action packed, but it doesn't disregard emotion and story. And it's a fitting follow-up that will make lovers of the Road Warrior giddy," wrote Eric Eisenberg of CinemaBlend.com.

"Mad Max: Fury Road is Miller's masterpiece. It's a tour-de-force film, an action romp par excellence...A wonderous blast of fun that's sure to warm the heart of even the most jaded anti-blockbuster audience member," said Jason Gorber of TwitchFilm.

Speaking to SFX magazine, Hardy admitted that the shoot was no cakewalk, saying, "Mad Max was) heavy metal in the baking sun, blunt traumas and car crashes, cars rolling over, spikes... Everything's metal. You're on wires with very little clothing on, and you've got a harness. It's very sweaty and hot and you're getting wrenched in the air and trying to bounce, smashed against metal, day in/day out, for six months. I got battered. I mean, it was bad."

Mad Max: Fury Road hits theaters in the UK on May 14, and in the U.S on May 15.
