Tom Hiddleston "Too Smug" To Play James Bond, According To Producers

James Bond Tom Hiddleston Daniel Craig

The seemingly interminable speculation about who is set to become the next James Bond actor have taken another turn, with the revelation that Tom Hiddleston stands little chance of landing the part because, according to a producer, he’s “too smug”.

Bond chief Barbara Broccoli is reportedly not enamoured with the idea of The Night Manager actor Hiddleston, 35, playing 007 in the future, according to a new report by the New York Post’s Page Six.

“Barbara Broccoli doesn’t like Tom Hiddleston, he’s a bit too smug and not tough enough to play James Bond," a source told the publication on Wednesday (April 5th).

The making of Kong: Skull Island brought the diverse cast to a lot of exciting and visually stunning places which, thankfully, presented a lot of things to keep them occupied over the five months that they were shooting. Tom Hiddleston opened up about bonding over a variety of activities.

When your job takes you to the most beautiful places in the world - Queensland, Australia; Oahu, Hawaii; and Northern Vietnam - you'd be a fool not to make the most of what the local environment has to offer. Tom Hiddleston Relished The Adventure Of Kong: Skull Island

Tom Hiddleston

For Tom Hiddleston, Kong was a chance to indulge in a genre he previously hasn't explored with great breadth: "As it was pitched to me, it was a big adventure film that was quite old-fashioned, but with a very fresh context," he says. "Truly, I think there's a part of all of us that wonders how we would survive on an island untouched by man. Even better, how we'd survive on an island untouched by man and inhabited by King Kong!"

Hiddleston was involved in the project early enough that he got to have input into developing his mercenary, ex-special forces character Captain James Conrad. "I wanted him to be someone who starts off in a world weary place," he says. "And his experiences on the island give him a new humility in the face of the wonder and power of the natural world."

Tom Hiddleston Shuts Down Interviewer Over Taylor Swift Question

Tom Hiddleston entertainingly shut down an interviewer on live television after he was asked a question about his much-discussed relationship with Taylor Swift last year.

The 36 year old British actor appeared on the American breakfast TV show ‘Today’ in order to discuss and promote his new film, Kong: Skull Island, on Wednesday (March 8th). However, the discussion was soon directed towards the summer romance that Hiddleston enjoyed with Swift from May to September last year.

Tom Hiddleston Talks About That Time Tom Hollander Made Him Pee On Him

Tom Hiddleston Tom Hollander

Does peeing on someone really help with a jellyfish sting? Tom Hiddleston better hope so because he tested the theory on his co-star Tom Hollander when the latter got attacked by a gelatinous pest while they were at the beach. Needless to say, it didn't seem to work.

Tom Hiddleston Insists Taylor Swift Relationship Was "Real"

Tom Hiddleston

Having been one half of the most famous celebrity coupling of 2016, Tom Hiddleston has at last broken his silence about his experience as part of the short-lived cultural phenomenon known as ‘Hiddleswift’, insisting that his romance with Taylor Swift was “real”.

‘The Night Manager’ actor, 35, had nothing but praise for pop megastar Swift, saying that her long-standing reputation as something of a man-eater is not deserved, although their relationship only lasted a little over three months.

“Taylor is an amazing woman. She’s generous and kind and lovely, and we had the best time. Of course it was real,” Hiddleston told the newest edition of GQ magazine.

Only Lovers Left Alive Review

Excellent

It's hardly surprising that laconic filmmaker Jim Jarmusch (Broken Flowers) has created such an inventively offbeat vampire movie, helped hugely by the ace casting of Tilda Swinton and Tom Hiddleston as extremely long-term lovers. Fans of the genre might find the movie a bit slow and relaxed, but sharp humour and especially strong characters make it unmissable.

In a run-down house in Detroit, centuries-old Adam (Hiddleston) is living in squalor while anonymously creating club music with the assistance of Ian (Yelchin), who finds things like antique guitars for him to play. He gets his supply of clean O-negative blood from a helpful doctor (Wright). Meanwhile in Tangiers, Adam's wife Eve (Swinton) relies on her old pal Marlowe (Hurt) for the blood she sips at sunrise like a cocktail before lapsing into a deep sleep. Bored, Eve decides to visit Adam, so books nighttime flights and arrives to a blissful reunion. But their solace is interrupted when her wild-child sister Eva (Wasikowska) turns up.

These may be creatures of the night, but over thousands of years they have discovered exactly what kind of art soothes their souls. And Eva's boisterous presence disrupts their languorous peace even more than the fact that the blood supply is becoming increasingly contaminated. Adam and Eve call humans "zombies" dismissively and joke about their influence on key events and inventions throughout history. Hiddleston and Swinton are utterly perfect for these roles, bringing out details that are hilarious as well as emotionally moving. They also let us see the years of boredom mixed with a glimmer of childish curiosity that would be required to survive for so long.

With Tom Hiddleston On-Board, What Can We Expect From 'High Rise'?

Tom Hiddleston Ben Wheatley

With director Ben Wheatley announcing that Tom Hiddleston has been cast in the lead role in the upcoming 'High Rise', we're now brimming with anticipation for the JG Ballard adaptation. The director set tongues wagging by tweeting a picture of the movie poster and writing “here we go. Cant quite believe this is happening. Tom Hiddleston! Jeremy Thomas! Script by Amy Jump! JG BALLARD!” The big screen version of 'High Rise' has been in the works for decades so we thought we'd give some explaination of the project's history and what can be expected now it's finally hitting the big screen.

What is 'High Rise'?;
High Rise' was published by English author JG Ballard in 1975, Ballard had just gained notoriety for his novel 'Crash', published two years earlier. Like many of Ballard's works 'High-Rise' is a dystopian work looking at the negative impact of modern life. It centers on a new residential tower which was designed as a luxurious solution to the problems of the city, but where the residents find themselves becoming increasingly isolated. Hiddleston will play Robert Laing, a young doctor who, as life in the High Rise deteriorates and residents break into tribal factions, finds himself in the middle of mounting violence that begins to emerge in himself.

A Week In Movies: Dame Judi In Star Wars? Jack Ryan And Milla Jovovich Hit London, While Trailers Promise Vampires, Spies, Aliens And Hunks

Star Wars

The best rumour this week is that Judi Dench may play Mon Mothma in Star Wars Episode VII, which director Jj Abrams starts shooting in the UK this spring. The character is a rebel leader in both III: Revenge of the Sith and VI: Return of the Jedi, but there's no foundation to this story. Rumours have been rampant over recent weeks and are bound to get even more inventive in the coming months. The original Luke Skywalker Mark Hamill has been keeping his lips tightly sealed when being quizzed about 'Star Wars VII'.

The year's first blockbuster, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, held its UK premiere this week before the spy adventure's British opening this weekend. Stars Chris Pine, Keira Knightley and Kenneth Branagh (who also directed) were joined on the red carpet by an array of local almost-celebrities. Only Lovers Left Alive Trailer

An ancient vampire named Adam is desperate to remain hidden from the world in his Detroit home. But that's harder than it looks as people are becoming increasingly interested in the music he makes and his mysterious ways. However, it seems music is not his only passion when his old lover Eve makes her way over to his home to rekindle their long lost feelings for each other. Enamoured at the sight of each other, it isn't long before all their attentions are focused on each other, but things aren't as easy as they should be when Eve's perpetually irritating little sister Ava shows up to see them and proceeds to test Adam and Eve's relationship to the limits as Adam struggles to contain his frustration at having her around. The pair have more to worry about, however, such as how they are going to survive in a quickly decaying world.

'Only Lovers Left Alive' is a hearty vampire flick written and directed by Jim Jarmusch ('Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai', 'Broken Flowers', 'Dead Man'). What makes it different to vamp films of recent times, however, is that the characters' monstrous natures take a bit of a back seat as romance and drama become the movie's main themes. It is due for release in the UK on February 21st 2014.

The Sundance Film Festival is the place to be for young, aspiring filmmakers hoping to crack into the hotly-contested business of the movies. The dark God's Pocket stars Philip Seymour Hoffman and Eddie Marsan

In thirty years the film has discovered some of the most promising filmmakers out there and continues to deliver, from Roland Joffé’s The Killing Fields in the festival's opening year (1985) to last year's most notable success; Fruitvale Station, the debut feature length from Ryan Coogler. With another 120 films to get through this year it seems more than likely that at least one of the releases will be leaving Park City, Utah, with more than a few skiing lessons and a commemorative t-shirt.

Yesterday the release date for Fast & Furious 7 was announced for April 2015. As predicted, this allows for some production delays and for the cast and crew to have a mental health break following Paul Walker’s death.

It also means that the film will be pitched against a different set of competitors, which might affect the franchise’s profits. In July 2014, the main competitor to our favorite fast-cars-no-plot franchise would have been Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

The Twilight-star has long been a favourite for the magazine when compiling their yearly list of sexiest men, but this year the spandex-wearing DC superhero Cavill proved too dashing to ignore, as he leaped to the top spot. Cavill was chosen as the sexiest man alive by the magazine on the back of his successful turn as Superman in the blockbuster Man of Steel, with his chiselled abs and facial features probably going some way towards securing his spot at the top of the poll too.

'Thor: The Dark World' Dominates The Weekend Box Office With Impressive Opening Gross

Chris Hemsworth Tom Hiddleston Johnny Knoxville Michael Douglas Robert De Niro Harrison Ford

Thor: The Dark World almost became the top grossing November release of all time this weekend when it managed to bring in an estimated $86 million in the domestic market since its Friday (Nov 8) release in the USA. It narrowly missed out on beating the record set by Skyfall in 2012, but its numbers are nonetheless a fantastic result for studio bosses at Marvel and Disney.

Chris Hemsworth is back as the God of Thunder

Benefiting from the global blockbuster that was Marvel's The Avengers, much like Iron Man 3 did earlier this year, the estimated weekend takings of Thor 2 prove that there is still a great deal of life left in the superhero genre and despite lukewarm reviews, the film still has a keen and dedicated audience. The domestic performance from Thor 2 mirrors the similar successes enjoyed by the film in the international market, where it has already grossed $240.9 million. Thor was released a week earlier in a number of key international markets, including the United Kingdom and Australia, and has continued to perform well overseas.

Tom Hiddleston On Playing An Ever Evolving Loki In "Thor: The Dark World"

Tom Hiddleston Chris Hemsworth

Tom Hiddleston might play one of the now iconic villains of the Marvel-verse, but the charitable actor actually has little in common with his character in Thor: The Dark World. This past Halloween, Hiddleston took the chance to get in touch with his youngest fans, appearing in full Loki garb before an audience of 300 children at a recent special Halloween screening of Thor: The Dark World. For USA Today, the actor explained that he loves reconnecting with his youngest fans, because they put everything into perspective.

Disney have had some troubling releases in the past few years, with potential blockbusters (we won't name names) bombing tremendously when they came to the big screen. According to Box Office Mojo, the film has made an estimated $109,400,000 from foreign markets since it was released last week. When the film opens in the US on 8 November, there is a good chance that it could match this kind of popular reception and go on to make a hefty amount in the box office by the end of its run.

Thor: The Dark World Sees Chris Hemsworth And Tom Hiddleston More In Tune Than Ever

It’s out. It’s here! Thor: The Dark World is finally in cinemas as of last Wednesday (in the UK and Europe) or Friday (in the US), and it is one of, if not the most buzz-worthy release of the season. Good or bad, that’s for moviegoers to decide on their own, but without spoiling anything for you, this might be the film in which we’ve seen Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and Tom Hiddleston’s Loki act more brotherly than ever. Maybe it’s that special bond that forms after doing three whole movies together or maybe it’s something else.

Tom Hiddleston Continues In His Quest To Be Hollywood's Nicest Man With Surprise Charity Visit At NYC Cinema

Tom Hiddleston has garnered a reputation as being one of the kindest gentlemen you would be lucky enough to run in to. Whether he's tackling poverty, giving kids a lift on his shoulders for the sake of it, bringing people soup or just generally being a good guy, the man sets an example across celeb-dom of how you should behave. So when it came time for him to choose between staying in London and partying with his Thor co-stars following the premiere of Thor: The Dark World, or flying across to New York City to surprise kids at an advanced charity screening of the film, you can bet he chose the latter.

Tom flew across the Atlantic just hours after attending the premiere of the Thor sequel to make a surprise, unannounced visit to an advanced screening of the film and to pay tribute to organisers at the Variety: the Children's Charity of New York and The Children's Aid Society. On Thursday, 31 October, the AMC Empire 25 cinema in Times Square held the one off Variety screening of the new Marvel adventure for the benefit of some of the city's underprivileged children - the perfect arena for Hiddleston to flex his gentlemanly muscles yet again.

Thor: The Dark World Review

Excellent

Marvel can't help itself: these movies have to get bigger and crazier. And this one leaves us wondering where they can possibly go next, as it spirals into a madly funny-scary thriller that threatens the existence of the whole universe. But it also feels like a story children would make up as they go along. Still, the sparky characters and wildly cataclysmic approach are hugely entertaining.

The action picks up right after the Battle of New York (see 2012's The Avengers), and scientist Jane (Portman) is miffed that Thor (Hemsworth) didn't call when he was back on Earth. She has just started dating a nebbish Londoner (O'Dowd) when her assistant Darcy (Dennings) stumbles into a spatial anomaly that draws Jane right into the middle of a 5,000-year-old struggle between Thor's home-realm Asgard and the dark elf Malekith (Eccleston), who wants to use a swirling goo called the Aether to plunge all of existence into blackness just as the universe aligns itself. As this convergence approaches, Thor defies his father Odin (Hopkins) and turns to his disgraced, malicious brother Loki (Hiddleston) for help.

The film is overcrowded with small but pivotal characters, including stern but helpful gatekeeper Heimdall (Elba), mad-doctor Erik (Skarsgard) and Odin's wise wife Frigga (Russo). All of them help distract us from the movie's wildly shifting tone as it darts from sardonic comedy to Lord of the Rings-style battles to silly romance to dark emotion. But the best thing is the tense, unpredictable relationship between Thor and Loki, an enjoyable mixture of sibling rivalry and brotherly love that's well-played by Hemsworth and especially Hiddleston. None of the other characters really has a chance to develop around them. But at least the actors have fun with their roles, including a number of hilarious cameos along the way (there are also two post-credit stings).

Marvel fans in Britain have a chance to see Thor 2: The Dark World next weekend, a whole week before their American friends across the Atlantic. The question is: will they be taunting the yanks over seeing one of the better Marvel movies in recent years or warning them to save the $20 and wait for the DVD?

Mystery Over Muscle: Benedict Cumberbatch Beats Gosling And Cavill In Sexiest Movie Star Poll

Benedict Cumberbatch Henry Cavill Ryan Gosling Bradley Cooper Tom Hiddleston Emma Watson

Benedict Cumberbatch has been crowned sexiest movie star in an unlikely turn of events whereby he raced ahead of typical heartthrobs Henry Cavill, Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper in an Empire poll.

The 'Star Trek Into Darkness' star isn't the most likely sex symbol of Hollywood, but the Brit definitely proved to be best after he was picked by 50,000 more fans than any of the other movie screen hotties. Perhaps the people of the world prefer the mysterious, intelligent look these days - or maybe it's just the accent as 'The Avengers' star Tom Hiddleston came in at second place.

We're surprised at the outcome as 'Man Of Steel' hunk Henry Cavill and 'The Place Beyond the Pines' cutie Ryan Gosling looked like dead certs to receive the honour, with the latter's numerous onscreen romances (we all remember 'The Notebook') and the former's portrayal of Superman, one of the most charming characters ever created.

The Hollow Crown Trailer

The first episode of this series is 'Richard II' detailing the life of the King between 1398 and 1400; his greed, his severity in regards to his subjects and his eventual overthrow by his cousin Henry Bolingbroke, who, after claiming the throne, had Richard imprisoned and later murdered. The second two episodes are based on Bolingbroke, now dubbing himself Henry IV, who's Kingship has brought with it a revolt with the Percy family. His son, the future Henry V, is determined to be King one day, but with a disapproving father who'd rather Henry Percy (aka Hotspur) become his heir, there is understandable bloodshed. The final episode tells the story of Henry V, who struggles with the complexity of war and his own moral standing as a ruler.

The X-Men panel certainly had the most impressive cast turnout. Actors from across the X-Men films appeared to promote X-Men: Days of Future Past, which is due to be released in 2014. Ian McKellan flirted with the younger reincarnation of his character Magneto, Michael Fassbender, commenting on Proposition 8, he said "It's great to be back in California, I feel safe here now." He continued by announcing "I'm looking for a husband", cheekily adding "it's great to meet you Michael".

Can Ben Affleck Really Live On $1.50 A Day?

Ben Affleck Josh Groban Tom Hiddleston

Oscar-winner Ben Affleck has announced he will live on just $1.50 a day as part of the Global Poverty Project's Live Below The Line campaign. The Argo director is following the lead of Hugh Jackman, who successfully lived on the same amount for the campaign in 2011, reports the Los Angeles Times.

Affleck - a long-time charity campaigner - took to Twitter to show his support. "1.4 billion people live on less than $1.50/day. I'm joining Live #BelowTheLine on behalf of @easterncongo. Will you?," he tweeted. The challenge is meant to "give a glimpse into the lives of 1.4 billion people who have no choice but to live below the line every day - and who have to make $1.50 cover a lot more than food," according to the organizaton's website.

Jonah Hill, Katie Couric and Justin Bieber's Scooter Braun also tweeted their support for the case, while musician Josh Groban has raised $4,700 so far after commitment to spending just $1.50 per day on food and drink. "In today's world, extreme poverty and inequality are unjustifiable and unfair. Live Below the Line demonstrates the problem in a concrete way, while raising money to address the problem." Thor: The Dark World actor Tom Hiddleston posted a video of himself on his fifth day of the challenge. The clip shows Tom in his kitchen with a simple baked potato for lunch. He also tweeted his meals throughout the challenge, which included boiled rice with vegetables, and an omelette with kidney beans. "Profoundly aware that to live truly #belowtheline I would have to forego many & various privileges....," he tweeted in April, adding, "To live truly #belowtheline I would have to surrender the roof over my head, gas, electricity, and clean, running water."

The Avengers Review

Excellent
Like four action movies mashed into one, it's often difficult to know where to look while watching this busy blockbuster. It takes a while to get going, but once writer-director Whedon hits his stride, the film rockets through a series of frantically entertaining set pieces.

When mischievous Loki (Hiddleston) steals the tesseract from top-secret agency Shield, director Nick Fury (Jackson) and his sidekicks (Gregg and Smulders) call in their superheroes: Tony (Downey), Steve (Evans), Natasha (Johansson), Bruce (Ruffalo) and Clint (Renner), better known as Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow, the Hulk and Hawkeye. And Loki's brother Thor (Hemsworth) also turns up. But calling them a team is misleading, as they find it tricky to put rivalries and mistrust aside to save the world from Loki's apocalyptic plan.

War Horse Review

Very Good
Spielberg takes the hit stage play (based on the Michael Morpugo novel) to the big screen with guns blazing, not only recapturing the heart-stopping urgency of war, but also cranking up the emotion exponentially.

In early 1900s Devon, teenager Albert (Irvine) lives on a farm with his impulsive-drunk father Ted (Mullan) and his tough-minded mum Rose (Watson).

When Ted overpays for the wrong horse to work the fields, Albert adopts the horse, names him Joey and teaches him the ropes. But when war breaks out in Europe, Ted sells Joey to a cavalry captain (Hiddleston). At war, Joey changes hands between British and German officers, a young soldier (Kross) and a French farmer (Arestrup). Meanwhile, Albert joins the army, heading into the trenches to search for Joey.

Midnight In Paris Review

Excellent
After a run of loose, uneven films, Allen hits the right notes in this funny, astute comedy about artistic creation and personal dreams. And Wilson turns out to be one of the best on-screen Allen surrogates in years.

Blocked writer Gil (Wilson) is visiting Paris with his wife Inez (McAdams) and her high-achieving parents (Fuller and Kennedy). When they run into Inez's know-it-all ex (Sheen), Gil starts having second thoughts about everything. He also begins to wish he'd lived in Paris in the artistic heyday of the 1920s, and is stunned one night to find himself in some kind of magical time-warp, rubbing shoulders with F Scott Fitzgerald (Hiddleston), Gertrude Stein (Bates) and Ernest Hemmingway (Stoll). He also begins to fall for Adriana (Cotillard), a muse for Picasso and Modigliani.
