Marvel's new trailer for Thor: The Dark World premiered as part of YouTube's Geek Week, featuring Chris Hemsworth returning as the hammer-wielding Norse god of thunder. This time, he faces off against Christopher Eccleston's villain Malekith and the Dark Elves, though his adoptive brother, Tom Hiddleston's Loki, is still around to confuse things.
The Poster For Thor: The Dark World
Natalie Portman reprises her role as Jane Foster, while Idris Elba, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Rene Russo, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Kat Dennings and Zachary Levi form the supporting cast.
There's plenty to like in the new trailer and the focus on the sinister Loki will be a real plus point for Thor fans, given Hiddleston recently confirmed that his character would not be appearing in Avengers 2: Age Of Ultron.
Another encouraging sign is the humor - all too often these movies can take themselves far too serious. In the closing scene, Thor is seen knocking the block off a considerable looking foe before asking, "Anyone else?"
The original movie, directed by Kenneth Branagh, was made for a budget of $150 million though brought in a swashbuckling $449.3 million at the box-office, essentially green-lighting the sequel. It scored mainly positive reviews and remains a true fan-favourite for Marvel aficionados.
