'The Avengers' actor Tom Hiddleston has just landed another huge movie role as he is set to star in an upcoming film that will explore the origins of the gigantic ape King Kong, titled 'Skull Island,' which will be released on November 4th, 2016.

Hiddleston will portray a pivotal role in the film, which Legendary announced they would be tackling at the San Diego Comic-Con in July. Jordan Vogt-Roberts will direct the production, and the script has been penned by Max Borenstein.

On Tuesday (Sept 16th), the film studio only gave very little details about what to expect in the flick, but noted that "previous works have touched on the island" whereas their goal is to fully depict the story behind the monster's early beginnings.

The most recent King Kong movie, Peter Jackson's 2005 epic that starred Naomi Watts and Jack Black, only started on Skull Island, but shortly after headed back to New York where many other incarnations have been set.

"But staying on and exploring this mysterious and dangerous place offers Legendary the opportunity to take audiences deeper inside this rich world," the press release said.

Hiddleston, who is best known for his role as the demi-god villain Loki in Marvel's 'Thor,' 'Thor: The Dark World' and 'The Avengers,' may have got the role as he is now considered a huge draw amongst sci-fi and fantasy fans. He already has a working relationship established with Legendary as the British actor co-stars in the forthcoming horror flick 'Crimson Peak' from director Guillermo del Toro.
