And it was probably the most British thing he ever heard.
Does peeing on someone really help with a jellyfish sting? Tom Hiddleston better hope so because he tested the theory on his co-star Tom Hollander when the latter got attacked by a gelatinous pest while they were at the beach. Needless to say, it didn't seem to work.
Tom Hiddleston peed on Tom Hollander's jellyfish sting
During his appearance on 'The Graham Norton Show' last night (February 16th 2017), 'The Night Manager' actor revealed how Hollander was stung (hopefully in just the leg or the foot or something) while taking a dip in the ocean, and the pair subsequently decided to test an age-old remedy - in the most British way possible.
'Tom got stung by a jellyfish and he shouted across the beach, 'I say old sport could you come and pee on me?' And I engagingly obliged', said Hiddleston. Of course, the whole idea that urine could possibly soothe or cure a zap from a jellyfish is preposterous, as the star later discovered.
'I've since read up on it and I don't think it works', he mused. 'It's an old wives' tale.' Still, what's little pee amongst friends? In fact, the incident is likely to bring up an old nickname from his schooldays at Eton College, where his peers made a joke about him wetting the bed.
'Very soon after I arrived I got the nickname 'Piddle' and the boys made up the rhyme, 'Hiddle Piddle did a widdle in the middle of the night', he recalled. 'My closest friends still call me 'Pid' but it's affectionate now.'
