Having initially cancelled a performance in the Philippines over the weekend, Sir Tom Jones has now announced he’s pulling out of his entire Asian tour due to “a serious illness” in his immediate family.

The 75 year old Welsh legend has confirmed that he’s now shelving dates in Bangkok, Seoul, Tokyo and Osaka, according to a new report by Wales Online. A statement from the singer’s representatives appeared via his official Instagram account on Sunday evening (April 3rd).

“Due to a serious illness in his immediate family, Tom Jones has regretfully had to cancel his performances. He extends his deepest apologies to both the organisers and the fans, who he is most sad to disappoint. There are no further details at this time.” Event promoters Ovation Productions quickly informed fans that full refunds are available.

Over the weekend, a source had told the Daily Express upon the first cancellation in Manila: “Tom is going through a bad time but wants to keep it as private as he can.”

It had been suggested by some that his wife Linda, to whom he has been married since 1957 despite his publicised infidelities in the past, was critically ill, having been a lifelong smoker. However, Jones’ management denied those reports.

Despite these cancellations, the ‘Delilah’ singer’s scheduled performances in Britain over the summer are still in place. He’ll be performing at the Aintree racecourse, as well as the Hampton Court Palace festival on June 8th, 15th and 16th.

Until last year, Jones was part of the judging line-up of BBC reality singing competition ‘The Voice’, whereupon he was dropped from the show in favour of Paloma Faith. The change made headlines as Jones revealed how upset he was to find out via the newspapers, as the network had failed to tell him about it.
