It's back for more, the headless drama with a head for ratings
Against all odds – odds that it would be thrown on the pile with all the other rubbish TV remakes – Sleepy Hollow has been a raging success.
Katia Winters, Tom Mison, Nicole Beharie and Orlando Jones in Sleepy Hollow
It could be the Halloween spirit in the air or audiences scrabbling desperately to fill that Breaking Bad shaped hole, but people like Sleepy Hollow, and it’s getting a second season, so there. It was a pretty simple decision for Fox who, having seen how popular the first three episodes were, went straight for the second season option.
The series premiere, which aired on Sept 16, grabbed the attention of 13.5 million viewers, achieving a 5.0 rating among adults between ages 18 and 49 - FOX's highest-rated fall premiere in 12 years. The latest episode was watched by more than 7.9 million people and earned a 3.0 rating.
"The show has proven to be a risk well worth taking -- it's a conceptual blast unlike anything else on television and it all holds together with inventive writing and a fantastic cast, Kevin Reilly, Chairman of Entertainment at FOX, said in a statement obtained by OTRC.com. "I can't wait for fans to experience what else is in store for this fall and even more of this wild ride into Season Two."
The premise of the show stays true to the original, while placing the action in a modern setting. Ichabod Crane is sent to Sleepy Hollow to investigate the decapitations of 3 people, with the lead culprit being the legendary Headless Horseman. Back in 1999, the film version of the story grabbed $206m worldwide from the box office, and it seems that success is translating to the small screen well.
