The late Tupac Shakur and political commentator Tavis Smiley are among the list of people set to become the next stars honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, with the two being nominated to receive stars on the world-famous stretch of sidewalk in 2014.

It has been 17 years since the rapper, actor and political activist Tupac was gunned down in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas on September 7 1996, dying from his woulds six days later, and since then Shakur has received an almost demi-God like status within the entertainment industry. His cult-like status within modern society actually makes his entry into the Walk of Fame a little surprising actually, as it should have come much earlier.

2Pac, as his name is often stylised, will receive his award for his recording career, which began when he first laid down vocals for Digital Underground's 1991 single 'Same Song,' a band that he had toured with as a roadie and back-up dancer prior to moving into the studio and then on to his solo career. Smiley, who most will know for his liberal talk shows, will recevie his award in recognition of his television work.

“The Walk of Fame Selection Committee is proud to announce the new Class of 2014,” stated Chairman of the Walk of Fame selection committee, David Green. “We have a great mix of celebrities and industry executives who have made Hollywood what it is today – one of the greatest entertainment destinations in the world. The new selections will bring great joy and fond memories for those millions who visit Hollywood each year!”

Also being honoured next year are Ray Parker Jr., Katy Perry, Motown performers/songwriters Holland Dozier Holland, Electric Light Orchestra’s Jeff Lynne, Latino group Mana and Rick Springfield. The 'Class of 2014' will be unveiled throughout 2014.
