Tyler James is the new jazz-soul sensation coming from the UK. He is recently touring with Amy Winehouse and you can see why as his influences are very similar to hers. He’s got a great jazz inspired voice that oozes smooth soul and classy character. ‘Why Do I Do’ is the latest single to be released by James. It’s an upbeat soul track that has a swing feel to it. The cool use of keys keeps it all very sophisticated while the rhythm rolls along nicely. James compliments the track very well and his use of range is impressive. ‘Long Day’ is has a more slow soul groove that again allows James to demonstrate his vocal ability to strong effect.

Overall this album sampler demonstrates a lot of different influences from soul to funk, rhythm and blues to jazz all with definite crossover potential. You can definitely see Tyler James doing well as his sound has a classy edge and is commercial enough to appeal to fans of Will Young lets say or to those young professionals sipping fine wine in their city centre flats. The lyrics are peaceful and romantic and there’s no denying Mr James has got a sweet voice. However it might not be edgy enough for some.
