Tyler Perry is the latest in a long list of big-names to be cast in the upcoming thriller from David Fincher; Gone Girl. The adaptation of Gillian Flynn's bestselling novel of the same name already features a strong cast, including Rosamund Pike and Ben Affleck in the main starring roles, and given Fincher's history of hiring the exact actor needed for a role, Perry's addition will hopefully be a fruitful one. Flynn is also writing the screenplay.

According to Deadline, Perry will play the role of Tanner Bolt, a defense attorney who is hired to represent Affleck’s character, Nick Dunne, after he is accused of having a part in the disappearance of his wife Amy Dunne (Pike) on the day of their wedding anniversary.

Perry isn't the only unusual choice in casting by Fincher, as another predominantly comedy-based actor has also been announced as a co-star in the film: Neil Patrick Harris, who will play Desi Collins, a former boyfriend of the missing Amy. Deadline also reported that, along with NPH and Perry, the cast has all but been completed, with Kim Dickens, Patrick Fugit and Carrie Coon also announced for the film.

Apparently, Fincher decided that Perry was the man for the job after seeing him in the universally panned Alex Cross, in which he played a detective hunting after a maniacal serial killer. No word on what made Fincher chose NPH, but we're guessing it probably wasn't because of his part in the Harold and Kumar trilogy.

Gone Girl will be released in cinemas in 2015, although no set date for the release has been announced yet.
