The Kill Bill star headed overseas to see the work of the Conservation Solutions organisation, which has teamed with government officials in Botswana to launch a campaign to save the rhinoceros from poachers.

They have been capturing rhinos in South Africa and transporting them to safety in Botswana, and Thurman has detailed the work in a spread for America's Town and Country magazine.

Her trip was documented in a series of photographs, one of which shows her cuddling up to a rhino, and she says of the scheme, "The beauty of these animals and the absurdity of their plight is so painful... I have lent myself to this (drive)... I'm here to help... I was so moved (when posing with the rhino)... I was just breathing in the moment."
