Unknown Mortal Orchestra's new single, Strangers Are Strange, is taken from their eponymous debut album, which was released on June 21st, 2011, through Fat Possum records. Throughout the rest of February and most of March 2012, Unknown Mortal Orchestra will be touring the US, with White Arrows and Girls. The band will also be playing SXSW Festival in March and the Sasquatch Festival in Washington in May 2012.
The humorous video for Strangers Are Strange was directed and edited by Sam Kristofski. Two men, in terrible disguises, hide badly behind a wall, taking pictures of two transactions taking place. The four men doing the deal in question know exactly what the 'spies' are up to, though.
Unknown Mortal Orchestra are based in Portland, Oregon and comprise New Zealand native frontman Ruban Nielson; Jake Portrait on bass and Julien Ehrlich on drums. Ruban was previously in the experimental rock band The Mint Chicks, who were known for their riotous live shows. The Mint Chicks formed in 2001 but split in 2010.
