Early on Saturday (31st January), reports surfaced suggesting actor Val Kilmer had been hospitalised on Monday (26th January) and had undergone emergency surgery for a tumor in his throat. Kilmer has debunked rumours and directly addressed his concerned fans via Facebook. In his statement, Kilmer explained how his hospital visit was not the result of a tumor but of an unspecified "complication".

Val Kilmer has reassured fans he does not have a tumor, contrary to rumours.

It seems Val Kilmer didn't wait until the new year to get himself in shape, as the former Batman star appears to have lost a substantial amount of weight in new pictures published by Britain’s Daily Mail newspaper.

In the pics a noticeably thinner Kilmer is seen out shopping in Malibu wearing a yellow shirt, jeans sunglass and a flat cap. In recent years the actor had gained some weight and looked considerably different than in his heyday where he played the caped crusader and Doors singer Jim Morrison.

Lawrence Shepherd is currently taking donations on Kickstarter for a stand-alone Breaking Bad sequel called Anastasia – a show that sees Kilmer and Slash “as an elite US Marshals team, that tracks down the most elusive and dangerous fugitives that are on the run.”

Former Batman Michael Keaton says he approves of Ben Affleck's casting as Batman. Affleck has been under fire from fans of the superhero ever since news of his casting was revealed. Affleck will star as Batman, alongside Henry Cavill as Superman, in the 2015 sequel to Superman: Man of Steel.

Keaton featured as Batman in two films. The first in 1989 was directed by Tim Burton and featured Jack Nicholson as the Joker. Keaton reprised his role in 1992 in Batman Returns, also directed by Burton, playing opposite Danny De Vito as the terrifying Penguin villain.

Planes is the latest animated feature from Disney-owned animators Pixar. Set in the same anthropomorphic world as previous Pixar hits Cars and Cars 2, the new film takes to the skies to see this animated world from above, but is is a world that we want or need to see? If the critical reception for the film so far is anything to go by, then no, we don't need or want this latest Pixar film at all.

Pixar Animators may have nailed it again, with the new trailer for the upcoming Planes looking as though the only way is (further) up for the Disney-owned studio. The new film comes straight from the world of Cars, or as the trailer states, from above the world of Cars, and it could be the next big animation since the last outing from Pixar.

The film follows Dusty, a humble cropduster whose horsepower could be enough to ward off competition from most aircrafts when it comes to a race for speed, but there's just one, rather unusual problem facing Dusty though; that he's terrified of heights. Because his duties as a cropduster allow him to regularly fly at a lower altitude, he never needs to go too high, but with the help of his friend and former-navy plane Skipper, he begins to finally realise his ambitions and conquer his fear.

With a stellar line-up including Dane Cook as Dusty, Val Kilmer (so expect plenty of Top Gun references, not to mention the soundtrack), Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Brad Garrett, John Cleese and Teri Hatcher. The film is being overseen by director by Klay Hall and producer John Lasseter.

Little has caused more contention in the contactmusic office than our recent discussion about the Christmas films list! Obviously, everyone has their own favourite, and to them that will always be the top of the list. One thing that became all too clear to us was that - with the exception of Elf & Bad Santa - there really hasn't been too many full blown Christmas films so we'd like to make a plea to Bill Murray and the other Hollywood greats - PLEASE make a new (top quality) Christmas film to join these festive favourites! 

I can't say we particularly advocate parents encouraging their offspring to watch films above their age certificate, but it appears we all grew up in houses that didn't really mind what we watched - and let's face it, some of the best Christmas films might have a few boobs or rowdy drunken behaviour... As children of the 80's and 90's, we're fully aware that there's original to some of these remakes, but as is always the way, these are the films we grew up with and as such, they are our favourites. 

Enough explanation, in no particular order here are the films we recommend you watch over the holidays!
