Actor Val Kilmer is said to be recovering in hospital after undergoing emergency surgery for a suspected throat tumour. According to TMZ, the Batman Forever star was rushed to the hospital on Monday (January 26th) after a 911 was made from his Malibu home, where the actor was said to have been 'bleeding from his mouth’.

The gossip site also reports that the 55 year old’s family were upset because they felt the actor had ignored his throat problems and allowed them to get worse.

Speaking to People magazine, The Santa Monica Fire Department confirmed that a 911 call came in at 11:31 p.m. on January 26th and that the patient was transported via ALS to UCLA's Santa Monica location.

The spokesperson also notes that while ALS stands for advanced life support, that doesn't necessarily mean Kilmer's situation was that serious. "It's not uncommon for an ALS crew to respond to an incident," the spokesperson continued.

Kilmer’s throat problems may have been going on for the past few months as in October the actor was in small claims court over a dispute with his former landlord where he told the judge he was unable to speak because his tongue was swollen.

In December the Top Gun star also found himself in the headlines after being pictured looking considerably thinner than in recent years.

His most recent public appearance was when he attended a LA Clippers game with his son Jack earlier this month. During the game the actor was pictured sitting with his neck covered by a grey sweater.
