Fifty Shades of Grey cast member Victor Rasuk thinks it will “suck” that Sam Taylor-Johnson is not staying on to direct the sequels, but is nevertheless “excited” that somebody new is coming to take over behind the camera.

In the run-up to its release, a number of stories emerged from the set of disagreements between Taylor-Johnson and the book’s author E.L. James over the direction of the movie, and it was reported soon afterwards she would not return to direct the follow-ups despite the lucrative gains to be had.

Rasuk, 31, played the role of Jose Rodriguez, Anastasia Steele’s friend, in the first Fifty Shades movie which was released back in February, and is due to come out on home release in June.

“Obviously I have both a personal relationship with her and Aaron [Taylor-Johnson, her husband],” Rasuk admitted. “It's rare you get to work with people you love. We all had a personal relationship with her so we're all going to miss her. With Sam, she did such an amazing job, especially with Dakota [Johnson] as she was completely instrumental in bringing out that female voice."

“Obviously that's going to suck. But a new director will bring a new voice and I'm excited about having that,” he continued.

But he also apparently struck up a good rapport with James herself, and is therefore hopeful that there’ll be good continuity between the movies. “I'm very excited. Like you, I don't know much about it, but it is evident from the books that Jose is in all three.”

Will he be asked back? “[James] and I had a good relationship, so I'm hoping,” Rasuk said.

Fifty Shades of Grey is out on Digital HD on June 8th, and Blu-Ray and DVD on June 22nd. Last month, a creepy 30-second trailer for Fifty Shades Darker, not expected to be released until 2017, was teased online, and is included on the DVD release.
