The former Spice Girls singer was handed the Fashion 4 Development Award at a luncheon in New York City on Monday (28Sep15).

Victoria received the prize in honour of her work for the U.N.'s UNAIDS program, which helps tackle AIDS and HIV across the globe and for which she is a Goodwill Ambassador.

The award was handed out during the Fashion 4 Development's 2015 Official First Ladies Luncheon.

After the event, Victoria tweeted her thanks to Fashion 4 Development founder Evie Evangelou, and she also thanked Colin Firth's wife Livia and Italian Vogue editor Franca Sozzani, who were on hand to present the honour.

Victoria wrote, "Thank you Evie, @liviafirth and @francasozzani for honouring me with the #fashion4development award @UNAIDS x vb (sic)."

Victoria's soccer star husband David was unable to join her at the event as he was in London attending the Pride of Britain Awards.

The prizegiving honours Britons who have shown bravery.
