We’ve just checked, and no, it isn’t April 1st. Apparently, once upon a time and not in a galaxy far, far away, there was such a thing as a Victoria Beckham hip-hop album.

Just as it sounds on the face of it, the project is not something that anybody involved with it is particularly pleased to remember, but now fans can get the hear what became of the sessions when 17 unreleased demo tracks were leaked online earlier this week, which can now be found on YouTube and SoundCloud, according to Digital Spy.

Victoria BeckhamA scrapped Victoria Beckham 'hip-hop album' dating from 2003 has surfaced online

The former Spice Girl recorded two albums in early 2003, titled Come Together and Open Your Eyes, but both were scrapped after poor sales of her first (and so far only) solo album Victoria Beckham two years previously, as well as a number of financial issues with the record labels to which she was signed.

Last month, a disc of demos containing studio versions of unheard songs written for the R&B / rap-influenced project Come Together came up for sale on eBay, and it's from this that the leak is presumed to have originated.

Most of the tracks were co-written and produced by hip-hop mogul Damon Dash, the co-founder of Jay-Z’s Roc-A-Fella Records whom Victoria also collaborated with on a fashion line at around the same time.

Two songs from that period, ‘Let Your Head Go’ and ‘This Groove’, were released a double A-side single in December 2003, hitting #3 in the UK singles chart. However, the album they were supposed to be on was binned after financial difficulties at the label, combined with a rumoured fall-out between Dash and Beckham’s manager Simon Fuller, and Victoria dropped out of music to concentrate on a career in fashion.

But now, 13 years later, the results can be heard online. Featuring hook-ups with M.O.P. and the late Ol’ Dirty B**tard, it would have been a radically different sound for Posh Spice, who is the only former Spice Girl not to have enjoyed a UK #1 single as a solo artist.
