"Twas the night (Well, the afternoon actually) before Christmas, when all through the house not a creature was stirring", no one but Abra Cadabra who was busy premiering the new video for his track 'Flicky'. Following up 'Trenches', the lead track from the album that Abra dropped two weeks ago, 'Flicky' continues Cadabra's stream of 2020 singles that began with 'Superstar' back in February.
Abra Cadabra's 14 track album, also released two weeks ago, is full of references to his home turf of Tottenham, his local manor and his sometimes difficult youth. For 'Flicky' Abra touches on The Original Farm Boys (OFB) an associated act of Cadabra's that boasts RV and Headie One as it's most influential members that have made a name for themselves individually. "All eyes on me when I step in the room with the team cah they know that we're OFB" Abra Cadabra sings. The Broadwater Farm crew have given rise to many headline acts with 22 year old Abra Cadabra being a prime example.
'Flicky' is a relaxed track with angelic backing vocals woven throughout. They act as a harmonic platform onto which Abra Cadabra has layered his subdued and often sombre rap. The mix is verging on Dub as it switches the vocal from left to right with a restrained snare driven beat as company. The intermittent booming bass bombs fly in and out but the track is uncomplicated and has a relatively sparse arrangement, focusing in the main on Abra Cadabra's vocal.
The video for the song sees Abra Cadabra driving his Lambo and partying in Dubai, a far cry from North London, but a lot sunnier!
