TikTok superstar Addison Rae has finally unveiled her debut single 'Obsessed' - and we have to say that's exactly how we feel about this tune. It's an upbeat number all about self-love, which is exactly what we need for a post-pandemic world.
Donned in a variety of seductive get-ups, Addison has also unleashed a video for the track, directed by Diane Martel. Her outfits were inspired by a number of sources; the white Dion Lee corset and loose white pants was taking influence from Britney Spears' 'Sometimes' video (1999), while her black catsuit harkens back to Posh Spice's look in the Spice Girls' 'Say You'll Be There' (1996).
The 20-year-old singer has previously expressed her fondness for 90s and 00s music which she grew up listening to thanks to her mother, with Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears and Katy Perry being major influences on her songwriting. It's also because of the messages of strong females in music today the likes of Taylor Swift that have inspired lyrical themes that bolster self-esteem.
'One could take it as being vainly obsessed with yourself, but that’s not what I’m trying to communicate', she explained in an interview with Vogue. 'It’s more I can love myself as much as you love me, and that’s important. There are days where I struggle, and it’s definitely a work in progress to accept who I am and give myself the love I deserve. But that message was so strong, and I wanted to communicate it.'
