Aussie punks Amyl and the Sniffers are back with an infectious new track entitled ‘Guided by Angels’; the first single from their forthcoming second album, ‘Comfort to Me’.
The video for the song, shot and directed by John Angus Stewart, sees a high energy performance from lead singer Amy Taylor with her signature blonde mullet and bikini-tracksuit combo on point, in contrast with her band’s chilled, unmoving stance. It’s quintessential Australian punk in every way.
The new album comes over two years after Amyl and the Sniffers dropped their critically acclaimed self-titled debut album through Rough Trade Records, winning the ARIA Award for Best Rock Album.
Like a lot of records that are being released at the moment, ‘Comfort to Me’ was written while they were quarantining during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Half of the lyrics were written during the Australian bushfire season when we were already wearing masks to protect ourselves from the smoke in the air,” Taylor said in a statement. “And then when the pandemic hit, our options were the same as everyone: Go find a day job and work in intense conditions or sit at home and drown in introspection.
“I fell into the latter category. I had all this energy inside of me and nowhere to put it, because I couldn’t perform, and it had a hectic effect on my brain. My brain evolved and warped and my way of thinking about the world completely changed.”
'Comfort to Me' will be released on September 10th 2021 through B2B Records.
