Ashnikko celebrated the long awaited release of her debut album by simultaneously dropping a new song, and video, for 'Deal With It'. Ashnikko's latest release follows her very successful run of singles from last year that included 'Daisy', 'Tantrum' and her hook up with Grimes on 'Cry'.
'DEMIDEVIL', Ashnikko's aptly titled debut album contains the aforementioned singles as well as a few other tracks she's previously teased but 'Deal With It' is an entirely new track that features, or more specifically samples, Kelis. The impassioned "I hate you so much right now" cry from her 2009 single 'Caught Out There' still carries a strong punch and certainly adds weight to Ashnikko's latest release.
Ashnikko's star is undoubtedly in the ascendancy as she captures a wider audience with each new song. Her collaborations to date have been well chosen and her individual look and styling have made her something of a (alt) fashion icon. With her extended electric blue hair and often provocative outfits Ashnikko grabs your attention before she's even uttered, or sang a word. Her lyrics are unflinching and sometimes immediately, deliberately startling and 'Deal With It' is no exception but it's by no means her most immodest of songs.
'Deal With It' is Ashnikko in typically confrontational mood having dumped her boyfriend, "Stringing you along like a puppet, I can see the desperation, got you right where I want ya. Beg for it, plead, you can suck it.(I HATE YOU SO MUCH RIGHT NOW)" The song skips along as Ashnikko gets to grips with being single as only she can, "I put the teddy bear you gave me in a blender, I drew a d**k on all your sweatshirts". (I think she may have been channeling her inner Glenn Close in 'Fatal Attraction')
In the video for 'Deal With It' Ashnikko blends 'Pirates Of The Caribbean' with 'Avatar' as she rides the storm amongst the rigging of her ship. I'm not sure where relationship breakdowns and buccaneers on the high seas meet but it's all a jolly romp below the Jolly Roger!
