BENEE, aka Stella Bennett, writes, directs and stars in the video for her latest single - 'Doesn't Matter'. The multi-award winning New Zealand singer-songwriter showcases parts of her homeland in beautiful isolation as she takes us on a trip around the coast.
Joining BENEE on her road trip are her dog Tui and BENEE's band guitarist and former member of Daddy and the Dames, Tiare Kelly. When they're not seen cruising around in an immaculate banana yellow Triumph Stag, she and Kelly chill out at a deserted, picture perfect, beach as they ride horses and paddle in the sea.
BENNE's latest video, for the single she released in late October, is co-directed by New Zealand actress Aidee Walker (Best Actress for 'Catching the Black Widow') and comes just a few weeks after BENEE announced a massive tour of Europe and North America. Due to start in Moscow in April, BENEE's tour will take in Oslo, Paris, Berlin, Glasgow, London, Vienna and Amsterdam before moving to North America. After visiting Montreal, Chicago, Detroit and Atlanta (among many other cities) BENEE will conclude her "World Tour 2022" with a date in Los Angeles.
Talking about the video BENEE said, "'Doesn’t Matter' is about how hard it can be to explain your feelings and emotions to people. Sometimes friends just being there for you is such a help. I’m so excited about this video; it was my first shot at co-directing with Aidee Walker. I came up with the concept, and she helped me bring it to life. I wanted the look of an old French indie film with a twist….and I love how it turned out.”
Both the song, and the video, deal with BENEE's on-going struggles with her mental health and her OCD diagnosis. As she sings "Although my fears are real, The things I fear are not" her torment is perfectly captured.
