Taylor Swift has found a gap in her demanding schedule to take time out from re-recording her back catalogue and collaborate with Big Red Machine on their latest track, 'Renegade'. The global Country-come-Pop superstar joins together once more with Aaron Dessner and Justin Vernon to deliver a gentle, yet mesmeric and reflective song that plays to all of their strengths.
The respected duo of Dessner and Vernon are no strangers to hooking up with various singers having previously worked with Anais Mitchell, Michael Stipe and Sharon Van Etten in the not too distant past. Swift too has had many successful collaborations including work with HAIM on 'no body, no crime', Ed Sheeran on 'End Game' and 'Everything Has Changed', Gary Lightbody on 'The Last Time' and probably more significantly, Bon Iver on 'Exile'.
This song features, and is produced by Bon Iver's Justin Vernon, one half of Big Red Machine. The other half, Aaron Dessner, wrote the song with Taylor Swift as well as attending to production duties.
'Renegade' is not the first time that the trio have worked together. Aaron Dessner co-wrote and co-produced tracks on both of Taylor Swift's 2020 albums, 'evermore' and 'folklore', the latter winning the pair a Grammy award for 'Album Of The Year'. Justin Vernon contributed vocals to both albums as well as providing some instrumentation to 'evermore'.
Clearly the formula paid dividends last year on two of Taylor Swift's most accomplished albums to date so why not flip the focus and shine a little more light on Big Red Machine courtesy of the 11 time Grammy Award winning artist.
'Renegade' is taken from the second Big Red Machine album, 'How Long Do You Think It’s Gonna Last?', due for release on August 27th.
