In the official video for 'My Universe', Coldplay and BTS are united by DJ Lafrique and Supernova 7 as they defy the ban on music that is "forbidden across the spheres". Coldplay's latest video is their fifth in the space of less than one week as they promote their biggest track, probably ever! Having premiered a lyric video, an acoustic video, an instrumental video and a Supernova 7 Mix video, anticipation reached fever pitch as the latest instalment arrived.
The official video had more likes than views at one point as excitable fans of both bands awaited the lavish, special effects strewn, spectacular film for 'My Universe'. In terms of commerciality and immediacy 'My Universe' ticks a lot of boxes. East meets West as Coldplay unapologetically realise Chris Martin's dream of working with the biggest boy band in the world right now - BTS. The South Korean's phenomenal success and huge, adoring fan base make this collaboration a tied on certainty to be a huge global hit.
Both band's will undoubtedly benefit from the hook up and enjoy a new audience. YouTube views have already surpassed 30 million, Spotify has recorded more than 37 million streams and the single has gone straight in at number three on the Official UK Singles Chart.
In the Dave Meyers (Billie Eilish/Harry Styles/Ariane Grande) directed video the opening sequence unfolds to reveal information pertinent to the film. In a nod to Star Wars/Blade Runner etc the text reads... "Once upon a time, many years from now...Music is forbidden across the spheres. On three different planets, three different bands defy the ban. DJ Lafrique, on her alien radio ship, unites them via Holoband. All the while they are hunted by the silencers..."
'My Universe' is the second single to be released from Coldplay's new album - 'Music Of The Spheres', which is set to drop on October 15th.
