On the day that they released their ninth studio album Coldplay have also dropped a lyric video for 'Let Somebody Go', a track that features former Disney actress Selena Gomez. After trying, and thus far just falling short of a achieving a number one global smash with their collaborative BTS single 'My Universe', Coldplay are going all out to ensure that 'Music Of The Spheres' achieves maximum exposure.
Coldplay's follow up to 2019's 'Everyday Life' is about as commercial and poppy as the band has ever been. In an attempt to regain chart topping status Chris Martin and his band have thrown the kitchen sink at their latest release, not only in terms of the musical content but also in terms of it's marketing, social media coverage and unapologetically mainstream pop bias.
Having employed the undoubted skills of pop guru Max Martin ('Baby One More Time'/'Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)'/'We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together') Coldplay have made no secret of their desire to broaden their diminishing appeal. As well as hooking up with the biggest boy band in the world in an attempt to bolster their audience Coldplay have also launched their lead single, 'Higher Power', via astronaut Thomas Pesquet of European Space Agency (ESA) on board the International Space Station, and sold their soul to BMW for the iX commercial.
Just as 'Music Of The Spheres' was about to drop Coldplay also announced details of their world tour in support of the new album. Starting in Costa Rica on March 18th next year Coldplay will travel to the Dominican Republic, Mexico, the U.S, Germany, Poland, France, Belgium, the U.K and finally end the tour in Brazil on the 10th September. The band's first tour in four years will aim to be "eco friendly" and will use "kinetic flooring" to help power the concerts. Chris Martin said, "When they move, they power the concert...And we have bicycles too that do the same thing."
'Music Of The Spheres' is released on October 15th via Parlophone Records.
