With her third album, 'Planet Her', looming large on the horizon, Doja Cat has shared the lead track from it, 'Kiss Me More', featuring SZA. Doja Cat's new single and video premiered overnight on the 9th April and with it a merch drop that included hoodies, t-shirts, tumblers and posters.
The simultaneously futuristic and mildly mythological video, directed by Warren Fu (Daft Punk/The Weekend/The Strokes/HAIM etc), sees an astronaut confronted and mesmerised by a giant Doja Cat as he navigates his stylised canoe through the water channel that divides the desert landscape. The traveller is transfixed by the duo of Doja Cat and SZA as he sails by, seemingly not knowing whether he's in imminent danger or just in heaven. He eventually arrives at a point where he must decide if it's worth taking a bite of the fruit that's on offer, and of course he can't resist temptation, and so he finds himself, in fewer cloths than he was originally wearing, in the arms of the gorgeous women. (I'll leave you to see how it all pans out for him!)
'Kiss Me More' is Doja Cat's second collaboration of the year having previously featured on the Saweetie track, 'Best Friends', where as it is SZA's first release since she dropped her track 'Good Days' on Christmas Day last year. Both artists are in fine voice on their latest joint venture and both seem to be enjoying the video shoot as they embrace the numerous costume changes that take place during the vibrant video.
SZA said, "I know our little ditty ‘Kiss Me More’ is a different strut and I’m just excited", she also tweeted after the release of the track, "Excellence comes in many forms. Everything on your own time. Gods plan in your life was not a conference call."
Doja has said ahead of the release of her new album that it might feature SZA, The Weekend, Ariana Grande, French Montana, Megan Thee Stallion, A$AP Ferg, Saweetie, and Young Thug. Well, we now know that at least one of those is right. 'Planet Her' is on the way, but no confirmed date has yet been set.
