Finneas O'Connell expresses a sentiment we can all relate to with his song 'Can't Wait To Be Dead', alongside a poignant video which pretty much summarises the challenging year we've had.
In the video, the pop producer flicks through his phone looking at news regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, Black Lives Matter, climate change, poverty, social media, nationalism, the LGBTQ+ community and other topical issues as he sings about how the internet can sometimes really bring him down.
"I'm happy for this song to mean anything to anyone who listens to it, but to me, it's a song about my relationship with the Internet", he explained in a statement. "Especially in an election year. Especially during a pandemic. Sometimes, the internet makes me laugh, sometimes it makes me cry, sometimes it makes me hopeful. But sometimes, it really makes me wanna be dead."
The 23-year-old - who you may also know as the brother and collaborator of popstar Billie Eilish - is currently working on a new project to follow 2019's 'Blood Harmony' EP, with 'Can't Wait To Be Dead' being his second solo single of the year after September's 'What They'll Say About Us'.
Certainly his latest track sees him enter alt-rock/folk territory that really suits the melancholy of the themes he's exploring. Whatever's coming next from Finneas, we can't wait for it.
