After rounding out 2021 with a reworked version of 'Seventeen Going Under' with Sam Fender, Holly Humberstone has opened up her 2022 account with a stunning new piano ballad - 'London Is Lonely'. The BRITS 'Rising Star' award winner for 2022 wrote the song just before the CoVID 19 pandemic started to impact the UK but she thought that now would be a good time to share it.
Talking about her latest single Holly said, "I wrote 'London is lonely' back in February 2020 right before the pandemic hit here in the UK. I had just moved out of my childhood home down to London and had spent the past few months feeling really trapped and alone in my tiny flat with strangers. London felt so intense and although there were so many people around me, I felt even more isolated and like I didn’t belong. I kind of lost myself in the city. It’s funny now listening to the song almost two years on, post-pandemic and feeling like nothing much has changed at all. I’m still trying to find my place here and make it my home and so it felt right to put this song out into the world right now, when so many other people are probably feeling lost right now too".
Holly's feeling of being lost and isolated certainly comes through on her incredibly emotive piano ballad as she sings, "And I swear that I’ll be alright but it’s getting harder and harder to reach you, London is lonely without you, So will you stay? Cos I’m oh so sick of this place feeling way too big, And nothing can hold me can hold me like you do, London is lonely so lonely I’m lonely without you".
Having made the move from Grantham to the capital, Holly has certainly had a tricky transition to make. Lincolnshire and London are worlds apart in so many respects but hopefully HH is making the adjustments she needs.
On the day that her latest single was released Humberstone took to Twitter to say, "London is Lonely is out now !!! I hope u love it". Radio 1 certainly did as they named it their 'Hottest Record'.
