KSI seems to be getting ever closer to securing his first number one single with his latest collaborative release, 'Patience'. After reaching the heady heights of number three with his hook-up featuring Craig David and Digital Farm Animals, KSI went one further in January when he joined forces with Anne-Marie and Digital Farm Animals on 'Don't Play'.
So if 'Real Love' can reach number three and 'Don't Play' can reach number two, what's to stop KSI's ironically titled latest single, 'Patience'? Well, currently, as is the topsy-turvy nature of the world at the moment, it's a remixed, traditional sea shanty! Nathan Evans' 'Wellerman', his take on a 19th century sea shanty, has spent seven weeks inside the top three and has now reached the peak, toppling this year's longest running number one, 'Drivers Licence' by Olivia Rodrigo.
Whilst Evans may have captured some collective need to share a sing-a-long during the current CoVID19 pandemic, and been fortunate enough to secure a slot on Ant And Dec's Saturday Night Take-Away, it remains to be seen whether his 220 Kid and Billen Ted remix has the legs to sustain a run at number 1. (Surely a boxer can take down a postman come social media sensation?)
KSI's latest chart success is a well worked amalgamation, utilising the combined talents of each of the three stars. With Yungblud still buoyed by the success of his 'weird!' album, and the use of his version of Bowie's 'Life On Mars' to mark the Perseverance Rover landing, and with Polo G having scored a hit already this year with 'GNF (OKOKOK)', each of the trio are riding a high.
"I Need a little bit of patience, Coz we be going through changes" sings KSI on his latest single, before Polo G and then YUNGBLUD enter the mix with their own vocal verses. The three voices, although very different, work well together, giving up a new dimension to the song as it progresses. With it's anthemic chorus and irresistible beat, surely 'Patience' will be virtuous?
