In what is probably one of the greatest internet diss tracks of all time, social media influencer Larray Merritt takes aim at all the various YouTube and TikTok stars who have been "cancelled" in light of varying degrees of scandal.
From Bryce Hall to Jeffree Star, Larray's rap video 'Canceled' leaves out nobody, and the clever setting of Cancelled University is a veiled likening of all this mindless gossip to school clique culture. It's so Mean Girls, it's painful.
And yet, Larray manages to poke fun at so many influencers without actually taking it too far. In fact, a number of those mentioned in his song appear in the video including Bryce Hall, Noah Beck and Josh Richards, Addison Rae, Ethan and Grayson Dolan and James Charles. It's nice that even TikTokers can laugh at themselves.
In the track, Larray makes reference to Bryce's on-again-off-again relationship with Addison; Bryce's diss track with Josh, 'Still Softish', which targeted Chase Hudson; rumours of James Charles' plastic surgery; Noah's relationship with Dixie D’Amelio and her messy split from Griffin Johnson; Nikita Dragun's accusations of "blackfishing"; Jeffree Star's accusations of racism; Shane Dawson's accusations of inappropriate behaviour with his cat... We could go on.
Directed by Jaketheshooter, the video certainly feels like more of a lesson in cancel culture than a reflection of Larray's feelings on any of the individuals. If he's taking sides, he's not being obvious about it.
