Olivia Rodrigo follows up her incredibly successful single, 'drivers license', with her latest song and accompanying video, 'deja vu'. The former 'High School Musical: The Musical: The Series' and 'Bizaardvark' star made such a huge impact in January with what was technically her debut solo single that she has wasted little time with sharing her latest release.
The young Californian singer-songwriter, who has only just recently celebrated her 18th birthday, is releasing 'deja vu' ahead of her hotly anticipated debut album that is due out on 21st May. Having signed to Geffen Records following her work with Disney it appears that Rodrigo is set to deliver on the weight of expectation. Olivia's first solo album is thought to be titled, '*O*R', although the title and art work are yet to be officially confirmed.
Having scored a number one hit single, and set new records, with her debut track 'drivers licence', the pressure to do it all over again must be immense but with 'deja vu' Rodrigo looks set to replicate that success. Not only did Rodrigo hit the number one position in the US, the UK, Canada, Australia, Denmark, Brazil, France and Spain she also became the youngest artist ever to debut atop the Billboard chart and has now become the first artist in 2021 to surpass 1 billion streams. Quite incredible stats for the young teenager.
Olivia Rodrigo's new single, again co-written with producer Dan Nigro, once again exposes the expressive vocal of Rodrigo. Olivia's delicate and sometimes whispered voice sits above the percussive soundtrack as she gets reflective and quizzical on her latest single. "I bet that she knows Billy Joel 'Cause you played her Uptown Girl, You're singing it together, Now I bet you even tell her, How you love her, In between the chorus and the verse" Rodrigo sings.
Olivia Rodrigo's latest tale of emotional upheaval is another teen drama played out skilfully across the course of a very well versed song. The story that unfolds is undoubtedly one that will grip the ever growing fan base of the HSM star.
Having teased various elements of her latest video for the new song, Rodrigo took to Instagram after it's premier to say, "the deja vu video is one of my fav things i’ve ever done. so grateful for @allieavital who directed it with such brilliance and kindness. so lucky to have @taliaryder in it as well. she’s irl the coolest girl i know and i’m her biggest fan. hope u guys are digging it so far. thank u for listening it means so much."
