After already releasing two tracks from his latest album 'TYRON' this year, slowthai has now premiered a video for it's final track, 'adhd'. Following on from the 2021 singles 'CANCELLED' and 'MAZZA (feat. A$AP Rocky)', slowthai is keeping his profile high with his latest video release. The Northampton rapper who released his second album, 'TYRON', to critical acclaim earlier in the month is not shy in coming forward these days and is riding the wave of success that his new record is bringing.
After causing controversy and suffering a minor setback, with some pointed backlash due to his poorly thought through actions at the start of 2020, slowthai is now, seemingly, more in control of his own destiny than ever. With his ever increasing fan base and higher public profile comes a need for more responsibility it would seem. slowthai recently made the announcement that he would no longer be spitting in peoples mouths at gigs.
The 26 year old rapper became synonymous for "slobbering saliva over gig-goers" after an avid fan at his concert in Milwaukee, asked him to do so by holding a sign which read: “slowthai I need you to spit in my mouth.” slowthai has now said, via the YouTube series, 'Chicken Shop Date', "They say I started it but I ain't spitting in no more mouths now." (I'm pretty sure he's made the only sensible decision given the current pandemic!)
After securing a number one with his latest album; 'TYRON' even out sold and dislodged the mighty Foo Fighters, slowthai now has the biggest platform of his life. Upon hearing the news of his album's success he said, "I want to dedicate this award or this position or whatever you wanna call it, to anyone who’s in a dark place, anyone who’s been there along the journey." slowthai himself explained that "When I made this album it was one of the darkest points of my life", adding that "I was heavily depressed, I had thoughts of suicide. To be honest this album and everyone that took part, and all you guys helped me out, boosted me up and lifted me."
His latest video is drawn from the darkness and depression that slowgthai has experienced, starting with an opening scene in which the rapper himself sings that he's "trying to get a grip" and only "screaming at himself" as he "deflects" for "self defence". As the London skyline looms behind him slowthai calls a friend, "Yo. I just wanted to say, bruv… I love you, man and I hope you’re doing well. And I miss you every day you’re not around" before going on to battle is inner torment in the very well captured song.
