Soulful New York electronic duo The Knocks team up with Foster The People for their fifth single release of the year, 'All About You'. This time around Ben 'B-Roc' Ruttner and James 'JPatt' Patterson join forces with the now seasoned L.A four piece to produce a very harmonic, laid back and silky smooth track.
This is not the first time that the two sets of artists have collaborated, they previously worked together on the single 'Ride Or Die', a track that featured on The Knocks second album, 'New York Narcotic'. The NYC pairing are no strangers to working with others having also worked with the likes of Big Boi, Method Man and Wyclef Jean. They're also pretty handy in the production and remixing department too, just ask Jay-Z!
For this single, 'All About You', the duo have kept everything very light. The song features a high vocal mix, layered to perfection with a slight hint of vocoder enhancement here and there. There are a couple of electro bleeps and beats strewn throughout but it's all very subtlely done. The percussion is low-key and similarly set, the only hint of a rumble comes intermittently from an underlying bassline and then latterly, as the song concludes, a fuller, busier burst of action.
'All About You' washes over you like a fresh summer breeze, it's so inoffensive and so utterly likeable, a tonic for our times. The Knocks will no doubt build on their growing popularity with this effortless and near perfect Pop song.
