On the same day that she released her long awaited debut album, Tones And I has dropped an audio video for 'Child's Play' (She's also shared one for every other, as yet unreleased, track on the album!). The new song from the 14 track album, 'Welcome To The Madhouse', is just one of the latest releases this year from the 'Dance Monkey' artist.
'Child's Play' further expands on Tones growing portfolio of sound with yet another shift in direction. Earlier this year Tones And I released the Rocky Horror meets Stranger Things 'Won't Sleep'; she then followed that up with her last single, 'Cloudy Day'.
Where 'Cloudy Day' was summer scented, light and breezy with an irresistible sing-a-long chorus and 'Won't Sleep' incorporated some left field percussion and a conversational back and forth vocal, 'Child's Play' is rather more strange and peculiar. The child's voice that introduces the song is something you'd could expect to hear in a horror movie before the cute and sweet is replaced by the scary and frightening.
In a recent interview Toni Watson said "I can't believe my first album. What a bloody fight it's been to get here." Having postponed the album's launch by one year she added, "I was going to go full honest with this album, be completely open and raw and that's what I did. I wanted to show the up and down emotions I felt through lockdown ... and from this crazy life. I think I owe a little bit of honesty to listeners and myself. This is how I’m speaking to everyone."
'Welcome To The Madhouse', Tones And I's debut album, was released on July 16th via Elektra Records.
