After a very busy 2020 that saw Winona Oak release eight singles in various forms the rising Swedish star has just released her latest, 'Winter Rain'. The former Chainsmokers collaborator, who last year also worked with R3HAB and Robin Schulz, is beginning to build quite a following as audiences everywhere start to become more familiar with her voice and her songs.
Stockholm resident Johanna Ewana Ekmark, aka Winona Oak, once again let's her voice take centre stage as she delivers her individual vocal. The piano lead, electro enhanced track has a faultless, contemporary arrangement not too dissimilar to that of Billie Eilish but with a Scandinavian slant.
The laid back dance beat, percussive touches and the odd bleep and beep soundtrack Ekmark's vocal effortlessly as she imparts her tale of unrequited love. "Now we’re so far from, Where we started, From here we’re only going down, I ripped my heart out, Did what you wanted, But still we’re only going down" Johanna sings.
In the video to accompany the song, directed by Julian Gillström, the main characters are seen dressed in bear masks as they dance around the forest before Johanna joins them. (Driving a Volvo of course, this is Sweden after all) The masked protagonist follow Winona Oak to the city as she sings her song of sorrow about a lost love. The video is just as stylish as the song but it's the voice of Winona Oak that's the true star here.
