Vin Diesel has made a grand appearance on the red carpet at the Los Angeles premiere of his new movie 'Riddick' which is finally set to hit theatres everywhere nine years after the previous movie.

The baritone-voiced action hero first appeared as Richard B. Riddick in 2000 with the movie 'Pitch Black' - a commercial success grossing more than $53 million worldwide from a $23 million budget.

However, 'The Chronicles of Riddick' fared significantly worse; with a budget between $105 and $120 million, its $110 million gross and harsh lashing from critics rendered it a royal flop. With 'Riddick''s considerably more modest budget of $38 million, Vin seems convinced that the sparkly-eyed alien badass can still be a hit, dubbing it's upcoming release as a 'victory'.

'I started in the independent [film] world, but this was a new level of challenge for me', he told The Huffington Post. 'This character struck a chord. He's tangible for them. I think the idea of a character that has been misread, overlooked and given up on is very fascinating to people.' He certainly didn't hide his confidence at the movie's premiere, pulling a string of light-hearted poses for the paparazzi, and brought his girlfriend Paloma Jimenez along for support.

'Riddick' is set for release in the UK on September 4th 2013 and sees our indestructible hero face new adversaries.
