Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation Review

Very Good

Writer-director Christopher McQuarrie brings a dark and gritty tone to this larger-than-life franchise. Along with a constant stream of barbed humour, the film has an enjoyably knotted mystery plot and action set-pieces that feel like they're grounded in the real world. It's a terrific shift into earthy believability for a series of movies that has previously indulged in gleefully incoherent narratives and exaggerated explosive chaos.

Right from the start, our hero Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) is an outsider. As he searches for a shady assassin (Sean Harris) and his mythical organisation The Syndicate, Ethan's Impossible Mission Force is being dissolved by the US government. CIA Director Hunley (Alec Baldwin) absorbs the IMF team, but tech genius Benji (Simon Pegg) secretly helps Ethan, enlisting Luther (Ving Rhames) and William (Jeremy Renner) as well. Soon, all three are gallivanting from Vienna to Morocco and back to London, as Ethan works with double or perhaps triple agent Ilsa (Rebecca Ferguson) to prove that The Syndicate exists and stop its nefarious plan.

The film plays out like an edgy James Bond adventure, as Ethan works with a possibly dangerous woman in exotic locations in pursuit of some very shadowy baddies. McQuarrie's script is unusually lucid for this genre, piecing together the various elements expertly, building a genuine sense of tension without ever letting things tip over into overblown silliness. The chase sequences are remarkably rough and unpredictable, avoiding digital trickery to create moments that are jaw-droppingly authentic. As usual, we can tell that Cruise does his own stunts; the opening hanging-from-an-airplane scene is awesome, and a helmet-free motorbike chase looks even more perilous. With the IMF disbanded, it's never quite clear how Ethan funds his one-man operation, but he has a terrific supply of cool gadgets stashed all over Europe.

Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation Trailer

The IMF (Impossible Mission Force) have been active for years, but it's time has run out. The head of the CIA (Alec Baldwin) informs them that they are to be disbanded, but some people can't actually adjust to that sort of thing. Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) can't let go, and soon discovers that the IMF is actually needed more than ever. The Syndicate - a Rouge Nation - has been steadily growing over the years, and is seen as an anti-IMF. Now, Hunt and his team must engage in their most impossible mission to date, and fight an enemy which, officially, does not exist.

Despite their countless missions, most of which deemed impossible, the IMF is closing down. Considered an irrelevant and archaic group, the government intends to tie off any loose ends - especially Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise). The problem is, Hunt is a veteran, and a tremendous agent of the IMF, and has uncovered a terrifying secret rouge nation, known as The Syndicate. Hunt plans to track down, expose and destroy The Syndicate through any means necessary. To that end, he recruits his old friends and colleges from the IMF, and plans to take the fight to them. Even if the mission is impossible.

Force Of Execution Trailer

To the outside world not much is known of Alexander Coates AKA Mr. Alexander, however for those who truly know him and his business they know he's the don of a large criminal empire; a notorious kingpin in the underworld of crime.

With age comes change and Alexander is ready for an altogether quieter and straighter life but retirement in criminal cartels is never easy, especially when your nemesis wishes to eliminate any potential threat you might hold over his rise to the top. Ice Man is a criminal with ruthless intention, and very little fear; a problem for all concerned. Mr. Alexander and his loyal employees' come face to face for an all-out action shootout with Ice Man and his army.

The direct to video movie has a renowned action cast of Steven Seagal, Danny Trejo, Bren Foster and Ving Rhames. The film contains everything that fans of the genre should expect in the ways of guns, explosions and all out violence; and some very slick Martial Arts in the way of Seagal and Foster. Force Of Execution looks set to bring another dose of Seagal flavoured action in 2014.

Jamesy Boy Review

Good

While this true prison drama is sharply shot and acted, there isn't a moment we haven't seen before. Instead of drawing out the uniqueness of the real events, the filmmakers rely on the usual stereotypes, which leaves this feeling more like a run-of-the-mill TV movie. But there's a very strong narrative buried in here, and some terrific performances underneath the preachy melodrama.

The title character is 14-year-old James (Lofranco), who has been in trouble with the law since he was 6. Abused as a child, he has a long and violent criminal record, and since he's been labelled as a "bad" kid he knows he'll never get a chance to achieve anything at his new high school. His mother (Parker) tries her best, but he still ends up hanging out with druggy Crystal (Salazar) and her gangster friend Roc (Trotter). For James, a life of crime seems more useful than going to school, so he begins working for Roc, only barely managing to avoid arrest and death. Then he meets local shop girl Sarah (Farmiga), who gives him a reason to rethink his life.

This plot is intercut with a parallel story of James in prison three years later, so we know what's going to happen. Of course, the thing that put him behind bars is the oldest cliche in the book: he does one last job for Roc before going straight for Sarah. This intercut half of the film is even darker, as James moves between warring with a rival inmate (Gomez) to clashing with the hard-headed warden (Woods) to resisting the advice of a Shawshank-like guru (Rhames) to trying to help a doomed newbie (Rosenfield).

LeAnn Rimes And Eddie Cibrian Fell In Love On Set Of "Northern Lights," But At 40, What's Happened To His Career?

Eddie Cibrian Leann Rimes George Clooney Kevin Bacon Gabrielle Union Lucy Lawless Ving Rhames James Van Der Beek Brandi Glanville Amber Heard ABC NBC

When Leann Rimes and Eddie Cibrian fell in love on the set of Northern Lights, things were already looking a little bleak for the American actor. Here was a guy with the looks of a genuine Hollywood leading star - a guy who had served his time on U.S. television (Sunset Beach), like many A-listers before him, George Clooney, Kevin Bacon, etc. So why has Cibrian - who turned 40 last week - lost his way in the tangled world of Hollywood?

In 2006, Cibrian joined the cast of Fox show Vanished midway through the series. The show focused on the disappearance of the wife of a Georgia senator, which is revealed as being part of a wider conspiracy. The family of the missing woman, a pair of FBI agents and a journalist are drawn into the ever-evolving mystery - sounds alright doesn't it? Well, it wasn't. And it was cancelled after nine of the thirteen episodes. Yep, that means Fox deemed it wasn't even worth revealing where the wife of the Georgian senator ended up.

Death Race 3: Inferno Trailer

Following the near fatal events of 'Death Race 2: Frankenstein Lives', 'Death Race 3: Inferno' sees the now badly scarred Carl Lucas (now known as Frankenstein) attempt to win his final race which will see his release from prison. Having already had success with four races and managing to secure himself as a legend in the Death Race game, things look to be on Carl's side for once. However, when he and his team are transferred away from Terminal Island prison, they are forced to play out this dangerous event in the first ever desert race and the stakes are even higher this time. Will Carl survive and win his freedom? And will a new face find success in franchising the controversial fight-to-the-death scheme?

Roel Reine of 2010's 'Death Race 2' fame (not to mention 'The Delivery' and 'Deadwater') returns as director for an even grittier and more deadly sequel alongside screenwriter Tony Giglio ('In Enemy Hands', 'Chaos', 'Timber Falls'). 'Death Race 3: Inferno' is car racing at its most perilous - the proof is in the name. Will Death Race be the sticky end for Carl? Or will we see happy endings akin to the first 'Death Race' movie? Either way it is sure to take audiences on an action packed thrill ride from its December 2012 release.

Cast: Danny Trejo, Ving Rhames, Dougray Scott, Luke Goss, Tanit Phoenix, Robin Shou, Langley Kirkwood & Jeremy Crutchley.

Piranha 3DD Review

Terrible
After the guilty-pleasure success of 2010's Piranha 3D, the quickly slapped-together trailer for this sequel looked like just as much fun. Sadly, more time and creativity was put into that teaser than the finished movie, which is a choppy, unfunny mess.

Maddy (Panabaker) is back home in Arizona from grad school, working in the water park she owns with her breast-obsessed stepdad Chet (Koechner). But after the Lake Victoria disaster, prehistoric piranhas have migrated here, drawn to the park's chlorine. After consulting with wild-haired expert Goodman (Lloyd), Maddy tries to avert disaster with the help of deputy Kyle (Zylka) and nice-guy Barry (Bush), who are rivals for her affections. But as the summer launch party nears, Chet refuses to close the park.
