Host Kimmel explained his guest had suffered an accident earlier in the day and then showed Davis walking into traffic while texting.

It appeared a passing bus hit her, but it was clearly just TV magic - and Kimmel explained the Doubt star had survived the 'accident'.

He said, "Miraculously, she's fine."

Davis recently made Emmy Awards history when she became the first African-American woman to win a Lead Actress trophy for her role in TV drama How to Get Away with Murder.
