War of Words' debut single Panic, will be released on December 12th, 2011, through Pop Justice Hifi. On the same day, they will also release another single, Battleground. Their single Panic has also been remixed by La Roux's Ben Langmaid, who is championing War Of Words. Says Abi of Ben, who has produced their upcoming debut album: "He used to be a DJ in the 90s so he knew a lot about that era. It's got that modern twist to it too, We brought our own style and the vocals are pure R&B."
Abi Browning and Lucy Duffield met at an audition for a unsuccessful audition for a Motown inspired girl group. Abi studied at the prestigious BRIT school, which boasts an impressive alumni that includes Jessie J; Adele and Leona Lewis. Lucy applied for the BBC talent show I'd Do Anything, but failed to reach the semi finals. Their main influence is 90's pop, in particular Ace of Base and Neneh Cherry. Their band name, War of Words, comes from a lyric in their song, Battleground.
The video for Panic was shot by their friend on Halloween, it's about the first stages of a relationship and sees Abi and Lucy walking through a forest.
Both girls were entering new relationships when they wrote the single Panic and Lucy explains: "We both got boyfriends at the same time so 'Panic' is about when you meet someone for the first time and you get that panic, but it's beautiful" says Lucy. "Like falling in love but you're like 'oh wait, do I want a commitment?'" confirms Abi.
