The end times for cinema, that is.
Remember when George Lukas and Steven Spielberg essentially predicted the End of Cinema as We Know It? Paramount seem to be gearing up for that apocalypse with a lapse into mega-deals, most recently an early release of Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, according to a report by First Showing.

The promotional stint follows a similar offer for a World War Z mega ticket from earlier this year. That offer included a ticket to a 3D showing of the film two days before the theatrical release, a small popcorn, one HD digital copy of the movie when it becomes available, a pair of collector’s custom RealD 3D glasses, and an official full-size limited-edition movie poster. Now, with the return of Ron Burgundy pending in December, Paramount have teamed up with AMC Theatres and Fandango for a nationwide offering of the program.

Since Anchorman 2 isn’t in 3D, the offer will have to be slightly amended, but fans who register on the official website will find out the exact conditions early, on November 26. The popcorn and poster will also likely be part of the deal, but unless the studio is planning to lower the original $50 pricetag for WWZ, they’ll have to sweeten the deal somehow to make up for the cheaper non-3D ticket.
So is this the beginning of the end? Are we already living in the terrifying End Times, envisioned by Spielberg – where tickets cost upwards of $50 each and cinema visits are reserved for the 1%. Probably not. But in case this is the one event that triggers the apocalypse, remember you heard it here first.
The film will be released in December.
