Fans of Will Ferrell have come accustomed to see him star in big-budget comedies in recent years, but his next role could be quite different as he is reportedly in talks to play film producer Russ Meyer in the indie flick 'Russ and Roger Go Beyond.'

The plot of the movie revolves around the softcore porn producer and the time he collaborated with film critic Roger Ebert to make 'Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls,' which he directed and co-wrote with Ebert.

Mark Amin's Sobini Films, David Permut and Richard Waltzer are producing the film, and the project could be underway fairly quickly as many filmmakers, including Brit Edgar Wright, are apparently interesting in it, Deadline reports.

The script will be penned by 'Saturday Night Live!' and 'The Simpsons' writer Christopher Cluess, which depicts Meyer and Ebert's working relationship in the early 60's, at a time when the film critic was just starting out at the Chicago Sun-Times when agreeing to co-write the script.

The satire film, 'Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls,' was released by 20th Century Fox in 1970 and became a huge success, which was rare is it was one of the only films to be distributed from a major studio with an X rating.
