The Robertsons, the family the reality show Duck Dynasty centres on, are known for a variety of things including their beards and ability to make offensive and out of date comments at the drop of a hat (or dead duck). However, musical talent does not rank highly on their list of talents.

That hasn't fazed the Louisiana based family who have decided to expand their growing media franchise by creating a musical based on their family's story. The Duck Commander Family Musical, according to the NY Times, will feature 90 minutes of songs based on the 2012 book written by Willie Robertson.  

The show is currently being developed by a Broadway producer who believes the musical will create debate and challenge opinion surrounding the Robertson family. Producer Michael David said 'The show will end up challenging the views and assumptions of people across the political spectrum, more than most theatre does. The Robertsons are so unusual, their story so juicy, and theatre shouldn't be limited to telling stories about people you resemble or revere.'

The family are apparently enormously excited about their upcoming venture and explained in a statement how they had approval rights over the script and lyrics. Willie, who currently acts as Chief Executive for the Duck Commander company, described the show as 'a great ride so far'. He further added "We've enjoyed the process of making a musical alongside the team who is interested in telling the Robertson family story from an outside perspective." 

Whether you're a fan of Duck Dynasty (and the Robertsons) or not, it's certainly going to be interesting to see how the musical's writers skirt round many of the controversies the family has faced over the years. 

The show is set to begin in February 2015 and held at the Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
